running natural gas lines 'on' house

We are replacing our natural gas lines (they are very old and worn) while we are having that done the plumbers are going to run a short exterior run of piping to my greenhouse (greenhouse is attached to the house) so I can install a gas heater.

The company I called said they could just run the short length of piping along my siding about 3 ft from ground and then I could paint the pipe the color of the siding.

This company has done work for us before and are very reputable, however this just seems odd to me still. The part of the house that the gas line will be "on" is not very visible at all and I can see how hiding the gas line in the ground can cause problems too. I just was wondering if this method is more or less durable than putting it in the ground. If we did bury it it would be next to the foundation where foundation plantings are growing. I assume that small trees can move the piping causing problems.

thanks,

renee
