We got the Slateline line of shingles made by GAF and love them. They are great for an older house. They made our house instantly look more "cottagey". The give the appearance of older style shingles and come with a 50 year warranty.

Try the "weathered" color for your look as it would work now and also with khaki later on.

I'm currently in England and am looking at tudor after tudor. About 80% of the homes are roofed with terra cotta colored tile. The remainder look to be roofed with super dark gray/black slate.

Any chance you can go with the slate look shingles?

They would give you more color flexibility

If not, I'd go with a terra cotta colored shingle.

If you could find a mottled or mixed color slate-lookalike, with both grays and a bit of reddish or brownish color mixed in, that would be a good way to go. It would offer flexibility and still look appropriate.

A vote for a black or very dark gray roof to work with the gray tones in the brick.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It seems you all are where we are. Either some shade of brown/ natural or a darker slate. We are currently looking at the gaf line of shingles. Camelot 2 antique slate or possibly the charcoal. Thoughts?

Slate -----color or material, that almost black, dark gunmetal grey.

I love Option 2. Wow, I didn't really think the house could look better, but does it ever look gorgeous with the gray slate-looking roof.

I'm not clear whether you're changing the trim colors along with the stucco. Have you looked at the roof colors with the khaki too?

Big permanent purchase, big impact. I would commit to a color scheme for the house and then move from there.

We are keeping the current trim colors.... The White Stucco will be painted a creme or khaki. We are not sure which shade yet. We have been advised to pick roof first and then work colors from there.

I think I'd also check out something with a bit more brown to it than the grays have. Drawing from the look of a weathered thatched roof to pick up on the cool brown of the trim and connect more with the warm brown stone. Also since you're considering moving from the cool white to a warmer colored stucco.

Option #2! It has the beauty of the color of #1, but is not so much of a statement. You want the roof to complement the house in a subtle way, not steal its thunder. Lovely, lovely home!

You are probably long done by now, but my vote would be #3. It is a bit warmer, which works better with the stone on the house. I hope we will get to see the stucco and trim repainted in the warmer tones you discussed.
