It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Spring (Greenhouse Pics)

The Geraniums are coming along.

Nothing says Spring like flats of blooming pansies.

One of my favorite varieties, Blueberry Thrill.

A ruffled pansy.

Candy Corn Vine in bloom.

Thunbergi is blooming.

Lots of New Guniea Impatiens coming into bloom.

A bronze Osteospermum.

The center of a white Osteo.

The greenhouse has an extensive succulent collection. Some Echeverias had just been watered and the waxy leaves catch the moisture.

A pink Million Bells, Calibrichoa, with a friend.

Lovely little piece of Kansas you've got there, Larissa! We've got about 5 times that amount of snow... and yesterday was so cold that I tried to shovel the sidewalk, and gave up after about 10 feet, or so! I headed for the warmth of the house so my ears and face could thaw out! We were below zero... WITHOUT the windchill! It was so cold yesterday, that the dogs were limping on three legs after being out long enough to relieve themselves! Frostbitten pads on paws are a real danger in this kind of weather! I spent all day, and half of the night, rearranging the Jungle and doing some deep cleaning... sucking up cobwebs and furballs, washing windows and dusting... it's amazing what you can get done when your husband isn't underfoot! :-)

Gorgeous pics, Tisha! Thanks for sharing them. I have planted strawberries in a pot - just for my granddaughter to have the experience of raising them and tasting home-grow SBs. Your yard looks beautiful! My yard is still a mess - working on it, tho. I plant natives and host and nectar plants for the butterflies. I've raised so many now, including the sphinx moth caterpillars, I couldn't tell you all the species. Monarchs are one that are very dear to my heart, though. Susan

I'm thankful for ... ...finally being able to have a full-time garden. No more traveling from NYC to MA to garden, then having to leave after a week and not come back for a month or two. ...being able to save shrubs and trees and plants that grew up with me, and seeing them thrive in a new setting. ...the >10' tall winterberry which is covered with red berries. The leaves are now gone and its feet are encircled with fuzzy seedheads from the white wood asters. The blue jays and cardinals fly in and out of the winterberry taking turns at the birdfeeder as if they know how pretty they look there with the red berries. All this is visible from my kitchen window too. ...having free rein to design and plant anything I want in a totally new garden setup. ...having planted everything in time (I think) and having the garden all buttoned up for the winter. Just have to wrap the new Osmanthus Goshikis with burlap. ...having the hope of a brand new garden exploding into life next spring. ...still being able to dig and carry and plant, even if the back grumbles a bit. ...the houseplants that stayed outside this summer and came inside when it got cold. All five of the Christmas cacti are at different stages of bloom. Claire

Karen, not only are the candles purple, but they smell wonderful!! Nana, thanks for the good wishes. It has been a wonderful day. Pat, I found the tin sign first and when I saw that little chick vase, I knew they would look great together. Jane, I bought another tin sign at the same GS and it is in another vignette yet to be photographed. Thanks for the good wishes. Punk, thanks for the sweet comments and the good wishes. As for the cross and first Easter book, just like Christmas, I like to acknowledge the reason for the holiday, not just the cutsie traditions. Marlene, thank you. ARC is Association for Retarded Citizens and is a chain of TS's' They are all over CO. I don't know if they are in other states. Luvs and Jeanne, the bunny rug is brand new and is on my carpet at the entrance to my dining room. I sure wouldn't donate something like that, but I am glad someone did!! Frou, based on your response, I guess they have ARC's in Illinois! Thanks, Easter is breaking out all over around here. I will post more pictures later. Thanks everybody, Candy

Ron, great pics! It would be hard to choose a favorite.

Do you grow Sun Impatiens? I had some last year for the first time and they did really good. Hope I can get some more this season.

Oh -I want to be there walking through and seeing it all for myself! Beautiful - and I just love those sweet pansies. They always bring back memories of my Grandma. I'm not familiar with the Osteospermum, but they are lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Ron, I have never seen a "candy corn" vine. What can you tell me about it? Is it new? Does it need full sun, lots of water? I hope I will be able to find it here in Michigan, but since I love it so much it probably can't be grown here. lol....I love all your pictures. I didn't know you were a professional flower grower. Your greenhouse looks lovely.

Thank you all.
The Candy Corn vine is Manettia bicolor. It's sold here as an annual, I'm not sure how hardy it is. I'm not sure how well it would ship. I cannot take credit for being the professional grower. My brother is the owner of the greenhouses and I work there in the early Spring until my own landscape maintenance business becomes more active. Joel built his first greenhouse and started selling plants when he was still in high school.
