Inclined to agree with Ann. Roses, even quite large ones, can be kept successfully in pots for years with only a modicum of extra care - I have several which get the old potting soil scraped off the top couple of inches and replaced with new stuff every year. Every 3-4 years, I turn them out and trim the roots and I use a general slow-release fertiliser such as Osmacote. While multiflora is not reknowned for its long bloom season, it does make a nicely foliated full bush which will not get as rampant in a pot. I fully sympathise with your tender heart (although mine is quite a bit more stony) and if you are cursed/blessed (take your pick) with a sentimental nature, then go ahead and keep the rose. As far as I understand, multiflora has been a host for the particular mite which causes RRD - the disease will affect any rose so having a multiflora on your property will make little difference if mites are upwind of you - any rose will act as a potential host.

Thanks for the suggestions! The laundry room is only about 6x6 so if I used a lesser material under the machines, it is more palatable to DH (and to me!). I hope I have enough after the guest bath is finished! I could do a 6 inch rug border centered in the walkway area (a rectangle with an open middle). I don't think I would do half the room all basketweave and the other half some other tile since the machines don't cover the entire half (about 9 inches is open on one side of the dryer). I've attached pictures of the current guest bath (pre-remodel) and the laundry room so you can see how close together they are. The hall closet is directly across from the laundry room. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the idea of a border versus complete basketweave as well as suggestions for tile to go with the border and under the machines. I am terrible with colors!!! It would be considered extremely excessive for my frugal food-budget psyche to even serve 3 kinds of meat at one meal, whether stuffed one inside the other OR side-by-side --- unless it was a mixed meat pizza topping for Sunday's homemade pizza made from the week's bits of leftover meat, or cold-cuts for sandwiches for a crowd. ;-) I see it would cost around $85 and up (from what I found on-line), which is 8-1/2 weeks of my $10-week meat budget. However, I would consider dipping into my emergency savings account for one if I knew it came with John Madden (former NFL player/coach/commentator) for dinner, who made them popular. plllog, he once watched a Jacques Pepin video, promptly boned a whole turkey, stuffed it, rolled it and baked it. Then he decided that it was a LOT easier to just bone a turkey breast. (grin) Actually, he worked in the meat department of an Italian grocery when he was a young teenager, and so something like boning a turkey doesn't even make him blink. As I said, he's a bit heavy handed with the hot peppers, and sometimes his food is too "creative", but he experiments, he cleans up his own mess and he's willing to make dinner when I'm busy. He'll even bake cookies. Or bread. Nancy, he doesn't really want to do the day-to-day "duty cooking", but he likes to cook when he wants to. That's fine with me, and if family members make a fuss about his cooking, then I know I can always say "oh, why don't you make one of those XXXXX that everyone loves" and I can weasel out of cooking if I don't really want to. You just gotta put a spin on it, LOL. For instance, I don't like using the InstaPot, it's fiddly and takes a lot more time than recipes lead you to believe. But I can say "hey, remember that duck that you made in the InstaPot, I'd sure like to have some more of that" and he'll drag out the InstaPot and make it. Bonus!!! Annie

Ho Ho Ho...Merry Christmas, dcarch!

I love your drawing.

We've cancelled holiday celebrations for this year here except for the reason for the season. Sandy, Newtown, and I've been ill for over 3 weeks has done us in. We are back in our house though without furniture except for a new bed and one chair. It echoes in here like a warehouse. :)

Hope everybody has a wonderful Christmas. Take time from the cooking to give the kids a hug & count Blessings.
