Hi! I saw your post on the island thread re: my kitchen picture as your inspiration pic - yes, what a small world. LOL, I guess it's not such a small world when it's on the Internet. In any case, I'm flattered that my kitchen was an inspiration.

My light is a PLC light as well. What tile are you using? I'm using sumi-e recycled glass.

Can you tell me more about your tabletop support? We did ours a little differently, and I'm interested in your setup since it allows for more legroom.

Can't wait to see your finished kitchen pics! I have to admit that it's a little odd for me to see another kitchen so similiar to mine, but since we're not neighbors, it's all good, LOL!

Hi! I'm wondering if I did end up with the same light as you since they are both PLC? My brother is an electrician, and he found the one for me that I ended up getting. I guess I'll find out once it gets installed?

I am also using a sumi-e tile! I had origninally picked a tile from Mandala, but once we had the cabinet color nailed down, they suggested the sumi-e because it had some of the dark color that mimicked the java stain in my cabinets. I think my shade is called Ohara- right now I am having trouble trying to pick out my grout. It is hard to tell in your photo, but did you use a lighter grout with yours?

How we did the tabletop support is had a metal support welded together, that was then bolted to the cabinets, and built into the legs at the end. My granite guy actually came up with this, saying it would give the best support along with allowing for the extra legroom.

Thank you for being so great about me taking elements from your kitchen and putting it into mine. When I first saw that picture, I just had to try to use that look in our home- I love a contemporary look!

My tile is Ohara as well - we are going to have sister kitchens! The funny thing is that I had originally planned on using Hida, but because of a sourcing problem with that color, I went with Ohara. I used a pretty light grout - bone or alabaster, somewhere on that not-quite-white end of the spectrum. I like how it looks with darker grout, but I have a lot of darkness going on with the cabinets and wood floors, so I wanted to keep the tile looking lighter since there's so much of it.

Thanks for the info on the tabletop! I'll have to file that away for the next kitchen...

gracie01 I forgot to mention that if you decide to have a storage tower, you might want to ask your fabricator to install an additional piece of counter top material under the tower. I saw a picture on Houzz with this and asked my fabricator copy it. It raises the tower up 2 more cms (or whatever thickness your counter top is), so that if you get water on the counter, it doesn't contact the wood. Over time, I figure this can make a difference in maintaining the wood cabinet being so close to a sink. In the picture you posted, I suppose a side-splash could be installed, but it might look nicer if you run the counter over the base cab of the tower, and then add the extra piece on top of that. Here's the Houzz picture I saw: Here's how ours came out. I actually knocked over a large glass of water all over the counter a couple of weeks ago, and none of it contacted the wood before I had a chance to wipe it all up. If I hadn't seen the Houzz photo I wouldn't have thought of this.

Hi missy, thank you. we still love our cabinets. I don’t have any right now but will get some. Be warned though, ou kitchen is tiny! We actually don’t have a microwave. We stopped using one about 15 years ago and haven’t really missed it, though I know not everyone can get by without one.

Your house would look great with an industrial style! The brick would be a nice contrast. Your home has the unique roof lines and unusual crank windows on the second floor that gives an industrial vibe. It’s just the color that doesn’t give it that style. Are there shingles on your roof or is it metal? A metal roof would look nice on your home. It would look great if your siding was a gray or green. Here are some colors along the lines of what I was thinking: Black Forest from Glidden, Mostly Metal from Glidden, Moody Sky from Glidden, Gray Flannel from Glidden, etc.... Think natural tones. Your home has dark trim which is great! Is it black or brown? Good luck!

I'm not disagreeing with cawaps but a potential problem with splitting which things he picks and which things you pick is that you may get a bedroom that is not harmonious style-wise/color palette-wise. Start with agreeing on how you want the room to feel. Light and airy vs dark and cozy, peaceful vs exciting/lively. Both of you should agree to at least this. Then agree on a color palette. Then browse through bedroom pictures on Houzz or Pinterest and find bedrooms that you both like - identifying which things you both like, things you like that he wouldn't mind and vice-versa. Go online shopping and put together a mood board. Maybe each of you can create your own mood boards and then you can combine together by mixing and matching from each other's mood board.

And when you say your next kitchen... you've obviously done this before? We are doing a whole build, and it is exhausting me- I won't want to do this again for a long time!! :) If I had more of a knack for design, I would maybe want to do it again someday...
