Thanks for all the inspirations..some are beautiful, some gaudy and stuffy, some elegant but not practical, some are cozy and you could see yourself crawling right in the bed and going off to sleep right away. It is really nice to have a large bedroom, it helps when decorating it. My DH and I have had our separate bedrooms for at least 3 years. I'd like to decorate it but it is hard to find something a solid color that he'd like, is not too expensive, and I can take to the laundrymat and wash myself. Oh, I could go with a quilt or comforter but most of them are large bold plaids, strips or flowery. I want something that will hang over the dust ruffle, maybe with a scallopped edge. The builder installed all rooms with electric baseboard heat in the house when they were built in 1977, and each room has a separate thermostat to control the temperature of the room, which we like but you can't have floor to ceiling drapes because of the baseboard heat register. I use mini-blinds and valances. The furniture is dark cherry, Traditional style. His headboard is one we had for our guest room in former home..kind of light aqua silk headboard that he has ruined from the natural oils in his hair. I've been thinking of recovering the headboard with a leather or replacing it with a wooden one. Any suggestions?

There are plenty of photos of Queen size beds jammed into corners if you Google. I would not call any of them "inspiration" pictures. If it was a twin bed for a child's room, I would say to do bolsters on both walls but that would not really look right with a Queen size. There are Queen size platform beds on stilts, with a desk or couch or other living space underneath. This solution is great for studio apartment living, but I don't know if that is what you need for a bedroom in a home. If the bed absolutley has to be in the corner I would do something light and airy. No headboard to define it. I like this idea of an attached night stand to bring the bed "around the room". Note that the nighstand floats. You could make the nightstand longer even. It would take away the 'jammed in the corner feel'. Also notice how the platform base is much smaller than the bed to give a light weight feel. You do not want it looking like a big box on the floor. When you build your bed take into account how you will have to make up the bed with linens and have some access between the wall and the bed. Another option for the bed is to have the foot/head board go all the way to the ceiling forming a wall making the bed an encove. I've seen this done on a decorating show where they put the bed in the middle of the room and had both the headboard and the foot board go to the ceiling. Could you consider a round bed? You can have a futon or mattress custom made. Most futons are made to order anyway. Google *round bed*. Some of them look nice in a comtemporary setting and some are hilarious.

Hi Vampiressrn, I havent gotten very far but heres what I've got. I made a "ethnic" headboard and footboard. The headboard is made of dogon doors. I dont know if you are familiar with them but in African tribes the father carves the dogon doors when his daughter starts menustrating. It is suppose to signify womanhood. The headboard is basically in 2 pieces. Each piece is made with a dogon door and African statues. The headboard isnt completely finished. Still needs some touchups of paint. Its on a king size bed. Maybe I will clean up and make the bed so that I can show an uncropped photo that shows both the headboard AND footboard LOL! The footboard will have a platform that will hold a coverlet, books, etc. Anyway, I have a long way to go before its completed.
