retrieving clippings on Gardenweb

Now that I want to go back to my clippings, I can't seem to figure out how. Looking at my profile doesn't work...any clues for me?

The link to 'your' clippings is on your Member Page. I see you have many 'public' clippings.

Wow, that was fast, thanks Sue! I'm working on a project and saved an idea in the clippings. I figured it's "greener" and tider than having a lot of notes lying around! Have a great day!

I used to always use Google to search for username site:gardenweb.com. But it seems like ever since Gardenweb added "Recent Posts" to the right side of the page, I get too many useless results. The Gardenweb search feature at the bottom of each forum index page seems to work better for me. Type in your username, select "Entire Site" and click search. =========== Edit: Oh, once you get those results, look for: "Run this search at: HortiPlex Plant Database GardenWeb Europe GardenWeb Australia ThatHomeSite!" or similar underneath the results. dadoes I think you hit the nail on the head with "the function is there to be seen if one looks in the right place". We as users of this site have no clue of what changes to look for. Where are the "right places"? It's like hide and seek...the webmaster of this site knows of the changes that they made but we as the users don't even know where to begin looking for ANY changes. I did notice the camera icons first but that only gave a hint that the thread may have some photos in it. The option to upload photos must have been a recently added option because it wasn't there when the camera icons popped up out of no where. It's NOT at all obvious when you look at this site through the eyes of the user as compared to the site developer/webmaster that is making the changes. Hey,gwAnnouncements let us in on these changes so we can use the site more efficiently...please.

While logged on, go the the bottom of any main CF page and click on any of the "member" links, like member services, etc. Then click on "see your member page" and then "see my clippings"

If there's something in particular that you remember from your clippings, it might be findable with Google or Houzz search. For years, I was looking for one particular post, and I searched everywhere, including the Wayback machine, but it was just nowhere to be found, but right after the move to Houzz, I gave it a try on the Houzz search and it wasn't hard to find at all. I'd be happy to help, but would need to know the name of the forum, and any specific, unique words that you know are in the thread. I found mine because I knew one of the other posters' screen name, which was distinctive, along with some other keywords. I think perhaps there were archives that weren't searchable on GW, that were revived on Houzz--if so, that would explain why I couldn't find it before. The internet never forgets. Individual computers do, however, so do pay attention to Bob's point. If you really want it, download it, and make hard copy too. Paper is amazingly durable. An easy Google for the food photo lessons: Part 1 -- Lighting, for example.

You're welcome. Be careful though as once a post that is clipped falls off of page 67, it is no longer viewable. I did not note what forums your clippings were from, so don't know how fast they move. You can of course go to page 67 of the forums and get an idea of how old posts are, thus about how long your clipping might be around. Some forums have not begun to hit their 67 page max, but others like Home Dec's oldest post is Jan 25th, while the oldest post here at The KT is Feb 17th at the moment.

Sue - I thought the same thing about clippings dropping off...but I was looking at someones clippings from the Appliance forum. It was dated 2007 - and the Appliance forum's current pages do not go nearly that far back.

I wonder if they fixed that - and that we can actually use Clipping for archiving???

I didn't know that clippings had a time limit :-(

Was this always the case? (I don't think so.)

I love the "clip" feature, but it is not too useful if they vanish. And it's not like there is a set time period where you could be aware, since it depends on the popularity of the forum.

will now have to make sure I "archive" somewhere else.

It's too bad GW doesn't archive -

Boy, I don't know. I was thinking we were discussing this and did a test of it over at the suggestion Forum a while back, but can't locate the thread now.

I think it might make a difference too, if you clip the OP (original post) or if you clip one of the replies....not sure though.

I just went and clipped the OP of Favoite Heartwarming Movies that is now toward the bottom of page 67. I also clipped my 'reply' to that thread. I'll try and remember to check them in a day or so, as things cycle through something or another here at GW in a 24 or 48 hour period. I know when someone first joins that their Member Page can't be found via a search until it has cycled through the system.
