This isn't a good time of year to get a fig tree, since its most stressful time of the year is approaching. If you're bound and determined to get one now, you could try one of the locally-owned nurseries. The two closest to me generally have fig trees and I've seen them at pretty much every nursery that I've looked. However, I don't trust the labels on the trees because I see trees with very different leaves labeled as "Brown Turkey Fig". I prefer to support local businesses, but I think I'd buy a fig tree from a source more focused on fruit trees. I'll take some cuttings off my Hardy Chicago tree before putting it away next month and, if you remind me afterwards, I'll mail some to you. Figs are easy to grow from cuttings. It'll take a couple years to grow to the size of what you can buy, but the price is right. By the way, I grow figs in pots and put them in my detached garage for the winter.

I picked up a Brown Turkey at Telly's last week for $20. Ten inch pot with four branchs 12-18" long. I was very pleased. I also saw BTs at English Gardens. $50 for a tree trained to a 30" single leader. I thought this a bit steep. I'm still interested in a Hardy Chicago, so if anyone sees one... Hope this helps, Dan

I think there's lots of confusion about that "hardy hibiscus" moniker that going around in the plant trade nowdays. It seems that rose of sharons , which are related to tropical hibiscus and in the same "mallow" family were called Athea for many years, but recently are called Hibiscus , so there's much more confusing the "hardy" Rose of Sharons, with the tropical hibiscuses. with some growers confusing the names even more by calling the rose of sharons , hardy hibiscus now. I guess , unless you can pin the growers down to say, what they're actually selling, that problem will remain. Sometimes the whole question of hardiness is even more confused , when sub-tropical growers talk about "hardy" plants, when they by no means mean "cold hardy". Some plants will tollerate windy conditions , hot locations , and some drought and for the sub-tropics , those are hardy traits that don't fall into the same category as "cold hardiness".

Found and bought! Although pricey, these are exactly what I was looking for, they're not as tiny as the one's shown in the picture I posted. I don't have the link, but go to QVC.com, then type in Bottle Brush Trees, and they offer two different kinds. I bought the Linda Dano set of trees and boy are they gorgeou! Different sizes, much fuller than the littler ones and so pretty. Check them out if you can. I didn't want to pay that much money but these were just too pretty to resist and will stand out more in my decor. Especially the gold tree! Thanks for helping everyone.
