what first? paint cabinets, tile backsplash, paint walls??

I am having a hard time really thinking things through- thoroughly. I am going to do a mini-makeover that includes a glass tile backsplash install, re-painting the kitchen walls, and painting kitchen cabinets. I am really trying to think through the order logically. I am thinking backsplash 1st, then walls, then cabinets? Am I missing any logic here? Thanks for the input!

We didn't paint our cabs but here's the order our GC had it done:

- primer/first coat of paint and trim
- cabs in
- tile in
- second coat of paint and trim

He did say that the tile and paint could be switched but the painter might have to come back to do some minor touch ups.

IÂm not sure what the "right "answer is to this question but I would paint the cabinets first. The reason is that painting kitchen cabinets properly is a tedious long drawn out process but when thatÂs done the rest is the frosting on the cake or the "prize". ItÂs kind of like when you paint the exterior of your home. After all the hard work and prep if you paint the front first it looks so nice but then itÂs so hard to motivate yourself to do the rest. If you start in the back your end result prize is getting the front done so you can admire all the beauty. Hope that makes sence. Best of luck!

It really does not matter since her paint won't stick to the splash, but easier...I'd say i woud be asier to paint without the splash so you don't have to tape off the bottom areas...

You have a wonderful lot of storage. I also don't find your cabinets objectionable. I think the builder grade oak cabinets are the ones that have given oak such a bad name. There are some very nice, different style oak cabinets like yours that are quite lovely. I agree with the lighting. I would say holes in the drywall would be better than such a terribly dated, dirty looking (nothing personal, I think all those of that style look dirty) box light. It just cannot be your style! I have a hard time speaking to color online, given different monitor resolutions. Green to gray would probably be lovely with your countertop, but gray to me wouldn't compliment what I'm seeing color-wise of your cabs. Green? As long as it didn't have a yellow base. You've got lots of potential there! :)

I think it can be done. There are products that can paint over plastic so I am sure it can be done. You may want to investigate the process first. Painting cabinets is time consuming and you would hate for all your hard work to peel or fall apart or pill like a sweater. So find the best products and find the process so you will be pleased with your results. And talk the folks at Benjamin Moore where you want to buy your paint. They will know and have products to help you. Are you putting in a new floor? New sink? Any new Appliances? I just did a similar remodel. Painted the cabinets, moved some around, new counter tops with a new sink, new floors. We painted the walls first so that we had a palette to start with. This is the largest area and the easiest to touch up. Then we took off the doors and using a random-orbit sander smoothed them down and painted them. did the same for the cabinet boxes. We put in new under cabinet lighting as well. Once we got all the cabinet work done, we put in the countertop and sink. Finally, we are just finishing the floor. Once everything is done, we can go back and take care of minor touch ups.
