broken valve stem on vintage shower

fuzzy

We have an old exposed-pipe shower and tub faucet in our home. The brand on the faucet is mueller.

Last week, my husband was attempting to fix a leak and over-tightened the hot water valve, breaking the tip off of the stem.

Does anyone know what we'll have to do to get it fixed? Can I get a replacement valve stem, or will we likely have to replace the whole faucet?

I can provide photos if that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance-

ps- if anyone knows where to find reasonably priced, well-built exposed shower fixtures, feel free to share that info as well. These things cost $1000 at many sites! I'm afraid of what this is going to cost.
