Pics of the S seam in granite some have asked to see

I finally took pictures the last time I was at the showroom of my granite place. This is what sold me on my granite place - they do no straight seams, even the small ones at the sink are shaped in an S. I liked that since granite is more fluid, I think it works well for the seam to also be more fluid. And they say the seam is much stronger this way too.

This is a table in the showroom. Granted the pattern does help hide the seam also, but they have other hand-held sample pieces of other granites and they all camoflauge this well.

The seam is in the shape of an S to the right side of the other peice of pie-shaped granite that is sitting on the table. I left the piece there as reference since it's so hard to see. If you can't find it, look at the front edge about 8" or inches from the tip of the triangle shape and then follow the seam up from there.

Is anyone else having that problem? The pics come through just fine on my screen.

Hey everyone. Been a while since I've posted here, but I'm loving seeing everyones plants so much that I thought I'd share some of my favorites with everyone as well. My oldest Thanksgiving cactus. It'll be 4 years in January. It doesn't look like much, but I'm thrilled with it 'cause it lost all its segments during the spring and I think it's coming back quite nicely. Opuntia santa-rita. One of my favs. Will be 2 years in April. Jade ovata 'Gollum'. Turned 2 in September. Haworthia fasciata. Really like this one. 1.5 years old. Philodendron scandens. 3.5 years old. Another Phildendron. Not sure of its exact name. Only 6 months old. Dracaena deremensis 'Yellow Stipe'. My mother can't grow these worth a bean, but mine's doing quite well I think. Will be 3 years in May. Dracaena marginata. Turned 4 in September. Ficus elastica 'Black Prince'. 2.5 years old. Hildewinteria aureispina. Will be 3 years in April. Coleus blumei. Looks quite pathetic right now but that's because I just cut it back hard. It always grows back beautifully. I'm proud of this one because Coleus plants are classified as annuals and this one is turning 3 years next month (Decemeber). Hope I didn't post too much. We have maple cabinets with a mocha glaze and installed Juparana Persa Brown granite. We felt the brown matched our cabinets better than the standard Juparana Persa. Sometimes I think we may have gone a bit too dark, but everyone who has seen it loves it. One thing we haven't decided on is what to do with the wall at the back of the stove. The granite has so much movement that we haven't found anything we loved that would match it. We did go with a 4" backspash in all other areas. If I get a chance, I'll try and take a picture and upload it. Unfortunately, every picture I've taken so far doesn't represent the kitchen very well.

palimpsest your link didn't work but I googled the sinks. They are beautiful but probably too pricey given the investment we've already made in plumbing. I'll ask my plumbing person to look into getting me a good price. Thanks! bostonpam the faucet cannot be mounted on the side because the sink is too long and the faucet would be over the cabinet and there would be no way to accommodate plumbing. That was the first suggestion we tried. sprtphntc, I was and am definitely very happy with Imperial. I was going to email and thank you for recommending them today when I had time. So, thanks :) oldbat2be, the TV is actually in the mirror. Like this except we have a frame for our mirror that matches our cabinets. The TV disappears when not in use and it just looks like a mirror:

Thanks for the many positive comments. Yes, I love my little shed. :) It's 8x12 (tiny) but I think it's just right. We've already had several neighbors ask about it. Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamt of having a little playhouse of my own. This "little mansion" went way over budget but I've assured my husband that when it's time to sell the house, that wee house in back will probably be a major selling point. It even has an attic with a ladder going "upstairs" and operable windows. I like to sit up there and just meditate on life. The deadbolt is an extra-security deadbolt and the little house is connected to the alarm system in our big house. We even had a house-warming party last month to celebrate the completion of our little house!! Here's a picture of the little house my first husband and I built for my two oldest daughter (built from a kit) in the early 1980s. The girls loved it - and so did the neighborhood kids. And now I have one of my own!

I can see your pictures, but the seam is so well done it is almost impossible to locate it. Beautiful edge treatment on the table top. Do you know what that granite name is? Terrific fabrication!

Cool!! I was able to find the seam before I read the instructions, but I think that's more about being a quilter and "trained" to see seams than anything about the granite seam. I think it looks fabulous! There are very very few straight lines in nature. The S seam just makes so much sense! Even if the eye picks it up, it doesn't stand out because it looks so much more natural.

Very nicely done. I wasn't able to pinpoint the seam until the 2nd close up picture. Then I went back to the 1st picture and was able to just barely make the seam out-they did an awesome job of disguising the seam. Is it more difficult to do this type of seam than straight?? Wonder why it's not so common to do this. Looks like it would be especially effective in busy/lots of movement granite. Thanks for posting the pictures!!

Plllog, you are a quilter - now I know how your countertop pattern got to be so perfectly gorgeous!

I quilt too, and when I saw your countertops today for the first time I thought they were a bit reminiscent of a quilt. That's so cool. I would love to bring some element of quilt-ness to my kitchen somehow.

tracie.erin, it's CTM Granite. Their showroom is in Federal Way and they have a permanant desk/display/kiosk area at Albert Lee Appliances in Tukwila. The guy who I work with (he met me at the showroom a couple times, handled the transfer of my granite from the yard to CTM, and did my templating) mans the Tukwila desk, but I would recommend him the most if you intend to do anything more than browse. They have some great granites at CTM, but as you probably know, fabricators have a limited supply. It's more likely you'd find your actual slab from one of the 5 or so big granite yards up in Georgetown or the couple in Fife and have CTM do the fabrication.

I have never seen the "S" seam before and I think it's a great idea. It really disguises the seam.

Very Nicely done indeed - did they use a CNC or an Accu-Seam S-1
for the seam?

I'm just curious - as I sold an Accu-Seam VGi-1 & S-1 systems to a
guy up there named Hoyt, and was wondering if that's the seam he did
with my Accu-Seam system that I designed.... If so - I'm pretty stoked about
it - that it turned out so well!!! I hope that's the case, but if not - there will be
guys in the future that WILL be doing serpentine seams just like yours with
an Accu-Seam system........

Silly me, I've only thought of hanging one of my quilts on the wall, not making one into counters! ;-) Actually, I almost did my baking area backsplash in quilt patterns. I think those of us who quilt use the eye we've developed from doing so more than we realize,as I'm sure it figured into some of my kitchen and backsplash design decisions.
