Need Advice - Fireplace Mantel (pics)

Hi, I could really use your candid advice. I'd like to use the picture and the lamps on my mantel, but I'm concerned if I can make them work proportinately. I haven't hung the picture yet, b/c I got concerned with the sizes.

Can you help me? - do the lamps & pic work together and if so, how do I pull it all together?

The lamps on the mantel in the photo were a great deal ($30/2), the last photo is what I'd love, but it is very expensive ($100+/1).

Any advice is very much appreciated - I'd like this to look really nice and we need light in that area desperately.

Can you post a picture of your mantle with lamps on there? There are several people on here that have awesome mantle arrangements. This is my dining room showing the picture and lamps on my server table.

Get a large enough art piece to work with mantle top size. The picture should not be wider than the mantle. Mainly it is a matter of trial and error. You place stuff up there and see what works. If you want create several arrangements, take pictures, and post them here. We will advise you. Start decorating!!

Of all the fireplace pics i have saved down, not one has a raised fireplaced w/o a raised hearth! However, I did google "wall mount fireplace photos" and tons came up. Most are more contemporary looking, so not sure what style you are looking for, but there were a couple with a stone wall.

What a pretty room and home you have. I have to agree with everyone, the windows and view are fabulous. I don't agree, however, with a window bench. One thing I would do is pull the sectional back so that there is no rug coming out from underneath the sofas in the back. In other words, pull the sectional to the far corner of the rug (next to the glass top table). This will shift things over a bit and move the recliner out of the walking path. Visually, it will look better also. It's not that far in either direction, so it won't be too far from the television either. If you have radiant flooring, you probably won't be able to put in floor outlets. Moving the sectional to the rugs' edge will possible allow a table with lamp or floor lamp at the outlet on the large wall (closest outlet to your desk). I agree, a comfy chair and table with lamp in the far back corner would be perfect. Especially the lamp. Is there an outlet near the glass top table and chairs so that a floor lamp could be placed there? If you get three good lamps in the room, you'll be able to turn off the can lights for a relaxing evening. If you cannot do floor outlets, I might only do one sofa table (against sectional back facing kitchen). I can't tell how much space is actually there - would there be a decent walking path to the glass table? If so, something more hefty than the table you linked from CB2. Make sure it is not taller than the back of your sofa (minus the cushions that stick up). If open below, buy a couple of woven wicker baskets with lids to hide toys, games and/or colorful throws.

Yeah, like someone2010 said, you have a pretty flexible finishing wood with the legs in the Linden wood, so you can do almost anything with them. Choose a shelf you really like and finish the legs to match. I'll include a link that had a good article on staining, and understanding stains. Cheers! Rachel - Yes I agree. I was trying to find the picture on Houzz I came across the other day, but it had a rustic wood beam mantel running wide out over the wood box holding the firewood. Something like that might make it all feel more intentional and really make it a strong feature of the room. Thank you!

Do you have a photobucket.com account? Create one and make sure access is public and upload photos. Then copy html code - 3rd one in list of codes that appear under photo on photobucket. Paste that code into your message here. And your picture will show up.

That's a good start. Hang the art with bottom edge at maybe 4-6 inches above mantle. I would move lamps in towards each other a few inches to interact with art more.

I think it would be a good start also. The lamp you really love is pretty, but I think would be too large for the mantle. What you have is pretty. I'm wondering about the little pot to the left. It appears to be too small for the mantle. Could you hang the print and then post another photo so we can see what other things we can recommend, if any.

To break up the almost straight line that is going across the wall with the print and the cabinet next to it, you might consider adding something(s) to the top of the cabinet, if that is an option.

Thanks Brutuses, I will try to get that hung tomorrow. When I hang it, I'm going to have additional problems. If I raise it as 3D recommends (and I agree), 4-6 inches, the outlet is going to show, so I'll need some greenery or knick-knack to hide that. The outlet is smack in the middle of the fireplace, about 2 inches up. I agree the plant on the left is small, but I don't know what to put up there. I love-love your idea of something above the entertainment built-in. I definately need to spruce up that area as well. Thank you so much for your time and considerate suggestions. smiley, do you have a nice bowl or urn that would block that outlet in the center? Can you get matching greenery if you want to create a symmetrical look?
