Cookies with The Princess and Bruvver

Today was our annual cookie baking day, I baked with my nieces and nephews before I had kids, then baked with my girls and now with my grandkids. We baked chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies with Hershey kisses in the middle, molasses cookies rolled in sugar, we made both chocolate and peanut butter fudge and we made sugar cookies, of course.

Makayla and Amanda put the kisses into the peanut butter cookie dough while Bruvver and I made frosting:

Ashley and her latest boyfriend, Ryan, helped frost and decorate:

Bruvver and The Princess each decorated their own personal teddy bear cookie:

Bruvver likes green, can you tell which is his?

Amanda just keeps frosting.......

Ashley and Makayla dance to "Santa Claus Is Coming On a Boogey Woogey Choo Choo Train"....

Finally, 8 dozen finished:

This was Makayla's favorite, it's a poinsettia. You knew that, didn't you?

No pictures of the best part, we all sat in the living room, ate cookies and drank hot chocolate and watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".

No, I really wish the only dentist in town bought candy, but he doesn't. He does, however, hand out free toothbrushes on Halloween! Makayla does look a lot like Ashley, who looks a lot like me. I guess we do have a strong gene going there, because I look just like my mother's baby pictures, although people are always telling me that I look like Dad. Actually, they get along pretty well, except Bud just CANNOT leave his sister alone. If she's not playing with him or talking to him or paying attention to him, he's going to do something disruptive. If anyone is paying attention to his sister, he wants them to pay attention to him instead. Not both of them, just him. Dad used to tell me that he was going to hurt her but I told him that she was always going to be faster and always going to be one step ahead and so far she is. Annie

RR, they grow so quickly, I want to have pictures so I can remember when I was still the center of the universe for The Princess, and when Bruvver would still climb on my lap and kiss me. I want to remember that "Alfalfa" cowlick Bruvver always has, and Makayla's curls. Gotta take pictures, Maggie will be in college before you can blink! Linda, that cookie cutter is the only thing that will ever get Makayla to eat a carrot, I swear. (grin) Or a rabbit either, for that matter, LOL. Jim, Makayla rides Copenhagen every chance she gets but Bruvver is happiest on a tractor. Or a loader. Or the bulldozer. LOL He loves to go "two tracking" with the Jeep and his sister is happier on horseback. I'm also happier on horseback but when I sold that little old Allis Chalmers C model that Dad and I put together from parts in boxes, I cried. I loved that tractor, even if it did need a new throw-out bearing (which cost $20 for the part cut you had to crack the tractor in half to replace, LOL). Yup, definitely had to make a tractor cookie, even if I didn't have Allis Chalmers orange cookie dough.... Annie

OK, I'm kind of thinking about it, although I still have a piece of Thanksgiving's buckeye cake to get rid of. I did buy 5 lbs of butter for $1.25 a pound yesterday, and 4 jars of marshmallow cream on sale. Since I've decided that I'm not putting up a tree this year and I'll put up just a few decorations, I might have more time to back. However, I promised Amanda I'd take her Christmas Shopping and we have tickets to see "the Nutcrapper" (Bud's version of the title, LOL) and I need to do Christmas with my family AND with Elery's, AND I have Cooper to deal with, I don't know how much time I'm going to have... I'll at least make shortbread and fudge and some cutout cookies with The Princess and Bruvver and find enough time to watch Rudolph and The Muppet Christmas Carol and the Jim Carrey version of The Grinch with the grandkids. again, thank you everyone. All the suggestions worked out great. We had plenty of food. As I did not mix up everything, the leftovers will be more manageable. Everything was good, expect I cooked the cake little long and it was dry side but it seemed to have been hit independent. It ended up much longer evening than I anticipated, everyone stayed well into the dark and last people left after 10 pm. So from that I assume everyone had good time as well. Luckily weather cooperated as well, no rain at all the last 4 days. Now my hands and back hurt from all the prep work and running around yesterday, so next couple of days I at least "plan" to take it easy. We have been invited to Xmas even party and asked to bring fruit cake. I have never made one, and if I recall correctly, these are quit dry as well. Anyway, after brief rest, I will be hunting for perfect fruit cake recipe.

Nothing better than a cookie decorating day with the kids. Precious! That's what's on my schedule tomorrow, Beau and I are building the gingerbread house for the Christmas party.

Yeah, it's good when you share your washing machine with Jessica and me. What are we Jessy--Laundrophiles?

I love your pictures, reminds me of what I do with my 5 yr. and 2 yr. grandsons. They are so much fun.

They like the frosting more than anything, just a little lick here and there~

Peppi, I already checked him out. (grin) He's a counselor at a home for foster kids in Grand Rapids, and he's pretty tolerant. Woodie, there's always a line of guys on the porch waiting for her to break up with the current boyfriend, LOL.

I told Bruvver my favorite color was green too, it's the color of field and pastures and forests.....

I did think the flower looked like a poinsettia too, although we cut it with a snowflake cookie cutter.

Oh geez, Sharon, she keeps promising me that she will take Cooper as soon as she graduates and gets her own place. I sure hope so, I do NOT want a dog, not even this very happy dog who was full of Christmas Cookies, thanks to Bruvver....

Love the tradition - everyone looks like they had lots of fun - and I especially adore the teddy bear cookies.

I love your pictures, they remind me so much of my family!

My two DGS's would rather make cupcakes, because there is more icing!

We are making the snowman cookies tomorro! Maybe some cutouts and maybe some cupcakes. Depending on how much time we have before Santa starts getting close and we or they need to get to bed.

Trixie, don't forget the reindeer bait. Here it's illegal to bait deer but the DNR will give kids a free pass on Christmas, LOL. Sucks the reindeer right in and Santa HAS to stop....

annie, don't tempt me - we are in MI a LOT! My dBIL and DSIL live near Ann Arbor and we try get there at least every other month or so.

I've also whipped up to Mackinaw Island AND BACK in a day to pick up my puppy so any time :)

If you're anywhere near fresh fruit or veggies in the spring or summer just holler and we'll be over

What a fun time for you all. I can imagine how the grandkids enjoyed it, especially when they get to eat their creations!

LC46, I'm about 40 miles inland from Lake Michigan and 50 miles North of Grand Rapids, so I'm right in the agricultural belt. The county next door is the "asparagus capitol of the world", good years I can buy it out of the field for 50 cents a pound. 15 miles away is a u pick orchard where I pick strawberries and cherries for $1 a pound. 5 miles from the blueberry patch, those were 70 cents a pound this year. I also have a farm market within 5 miles that grows everything they sell, and they sell everything from potatoes and squash to 40 varieties of heirloom apples.

Oh, and Elery's house is 45 minutes from Ann Arbor!

Annie - thanks for the invite. I will take you up on it in the spring. Asparagus - yummm! I'll have to come every weekend LOL

Maybe we can organize a CF get together. I hear there was an awesome canning get-together a few years ago. That would be fun to do again. I would love to host and if I do, you guys with gardens or local farmers would have to bring the produce. I can't grow anything to save my life but I sure do love to eat it.

A CF get together would be fun, Sherry is about an hour from Elery's, Nancy is north of me, Duane is near Detroit and so is Rita, Michael/Lyra is over by Saginaw. Peppi is in Chicago, and we've been known to go there too!
