I may have screwed up my turkey

I bought a frozen turkey this past weekend and put it in my fridge to thaw. I thought I would speed up the thawing process today and let it sit in some cold tap water. I was only going to leave it in the water a couple hours before I had to leave for a family gathering and then put it back in the fridge. Instead I forgot to put it back in the fridge before I left so it stayed in the water for about 6 hours. I have it back in my fridge but I am afraid to cook it now because of bacteria. I was going to brine it tomorrow night. Is it lost?
