My first response got hung up and never posted:( We revamped our front porch light fixture for a nominal amount of money. It was a big fixture and would have cost a few hundred to replace. We took it down. It had six panes of AMBER glass....yuk, which I replaced. Went to a local glass shop and bought leftover crackle glass for $30 which they cut to the exact size of the old glass. Then bought 2 cans of Rustoleum hammered black spray paint at HD for $13. It looks like a totally new fixture. It was not hard to do. We hung the fixture in the middle of our 8 ft ladder so we could spray paint all sides at once. Luckily we were having some work done on the porch ceiling so the workers removed and reinstalled the fixture. I will try to post a pic if I can get photobucket to work.

The method posted by gk above works like a charm. Do take the fixture down, though. It's easier in the end than trying to spray paint it in place. If yours is peeling, scrape and sand first, and you might even use the Rustolean primer before painting. The hammered finishes look great, especially if your surface isn't smooth because of peeling.

gk5040, do you use AOL? It won't let me load certain pics, but when I minimize and go straight through Internet Explorer, I have no problems.

Jen9, I'll give another thumbs up for Rustoleum hammered spray paint. It's so easy, a trained monkey could do it (don't ask me how I know that). :)

How involved is taking them down? Do you need an electrician?

Parm, I do have aol, but also tried thru internet explorer, still no luck:( Another poster on a different thread suggested I free up some space which i did, still no luck. Do you know another website similar to photobucket?
