Kortez15: The island cabinet is 36-1/4" by 106". The countertop that sits on top of it will be approx. 48-1/4" by 108". That gives us about a 12" overhang on the breakfast bar. I don't have many pictures yet because the island was stained early last week and covered in plastic while the rest of the house was painted. Here are the bookcase doors, open. The bookcase is at the nook end of the island: This is a first draft sketch from the cabinetmaker with incorrect measurements but you can see what the front of the island looks like: This is a hidden electrical outlet that will be on the front of the island. The electric hasn't been installed yet but you can see that you tilt out the cover to access it. This is so that I can use electric at the left end of the island if I need to. Since it won't be used often, I went with the hidden tilt out. There is also electric at the right end of the island. The door under it is a false door - it doesn't open. I don't really have much else that I can tell you about the island at this time. I hope to see it in person this weekend and take more pictures. try_hard

Just a few comments on Grohe Customer Service, if that is what you want to call it! I purchased a Brand New Kitchen display in 2009. Included in the Kitchen was a Grohe Bridgeport Bridge Faucet in Antique Bronze. Their MSRP on this faucet is $1826.00 !!! Quite a Hefty price tag for a Kitchen Faucet, it should actually wash your dishes for you! Anyway, this morning the spout protruding from the vertical column snapped off at the threads. I extracted the broken nipple (this piece is threaded in) and ran down to the local Plumbing Supply and Service Business to see if they could just rethread the end of the spout so I could screw it back in and be on my Merry Way, THEY LAUGHED!!! The thread was nothing they had ever seen before. They told me to call Grohe Customer Service and see if I could obtain a replacement. After waiting 20 minutes on hold a male Customer Service Rep answered. I explained my situation to him, he asked if I had the original receipt? To this I replied no, I did not have the receipt because it was in a package deal on the new kitchen I bought. Guess what? To Bad! No receipt, no warranty, no part! I guess "Lifetime" warranty should actually be CONDITIONAL LIFETIME WARRANTY, If we feel like it! I Hung up! After thinking about it for a bit I decided I gave up way to easy and called back. This time a young woman answered, after the usual 20 minute wait. I again explained the situation hoping to find a more amenable ear. NOT SO! She was Snappy and short with me. I was told the model was discontinued last year and this part was no longer available and her online search revealed not a one to be had. She did however provide me with the name and contact info for a local business that could probably fix me up with what I needed. So let me see if I got this straight. A World Class Company that praises themselves on the HIGH QUALITY of their fixtures and their "Lifetime" Warranty discontinues an $1800 fixture and fails to ensure they have an adequate inventory of replacement parts for said product, Employs "Customer Service" Reps with Bad Attitudes and steers their customers that bought their product believing they had a "Lifetime Warranty" to a local fabrication shop to cover their asses? Whiskey tango Foxtrot! Does anyone other than myself see a problem with this?

Well, your story sounds like a stressful one. And though you want to move in right away, I still don't understand why you can't take a breath and sort out your sink and faucet choices. Just about everyone on this forum redoing a kitchen has lived without a kitchen sink and faucet for a while, sometimes months, so I wouldn't use that as a reason to rush your decision. In any case, your second post makes it sound like you really want the Silgranit Cafe Brown, so get that one. The designer you ran into likely is just stuck in a stainless habit, and is unfamiliar with Silgranit. Did the designer give you a reason not to choose Silgranit? Just cause your appliances are stainless doesn't mean your sink needs to be stainless (BTW, why are you saying the Silgranit Cafe Brown sink would take 2-3 weeks? We ordered our Silgranit sink from homeandstone.com, and it came about 3 days after we ordered it.) I can only tell you our thought processes for how we chose our Blanco Blancoprecis Super Single Silgranit sink: Stainless vs. Silgranit - we chose stainless at first, then decided we didn't want to live the with the water marks, and switched to Silgranit. Silgranit color - we chose Anthracite cause it looked good with our granite. Sink Size - the kitchen is small so we were limited to a 30" wide sink. You haven't said what size is your sink cabinet--how can you order a sink without knowing that information? Shape - rectangular seemed to be the most efficient use of space, fit the largest pans better than a D-shape, and has a look we like. We really like the apron front style the most, but Silgranit doesn't come in an apron front sink. Single vs double - we chose single because a double sink in a 30" size provides two bowls that are too small for large pans. Since you are having a prep sink too, I would recommend a single bowl sink. Just a note about the Franke you mentioned. Before we went with Silgranit, we were going to have a stainless sink, and were about to purchase the Kraus 30" KHU100-30 16-gauge sink. The Franke sinks are typically 18 gauge, not 16 gauge (16 gauge is thicker). The Franke sinks are also expensive; you are paying a lot for the name. The Kraus sink we liked sells for $370 on Overstock, and comes with the grid and strainer for free. Ticor sinks also are a good buy. I would never buy a Franke sink cause I feel their prices are ripoffs. As to the faucet finish, my personal preference is not oil-rubbed bronze for a kitchen. It is a living finish, and I am just not a fan of a living finish in a kitchen, just MHO. But if you like the oil rubbed bronze get it. We can't give you much advice about faucet finish because as Buehl already said, and you haven't responded, you haven't provided any info on your cabinets, countertops, wall color, or backsplash.

I replaced my faulty faucet with another Moen with manual on/off thinking nothing could go wrong. Long story short, after multiple calls to Moen (the handle loosening to the point I was afraid it would fall off) they sent me a replacement "cartridge". Told me the cartridges go bad with these products sitting on the shelf. WHAT?!? I have to pay somebody every time something goes wrong with these Moen products!!!! Never, Never again!!!!!
