Biting is pretty natural behavior for a puppy, especially one that is part terrier (they are a "mouthy" breed, as evidenced by their propensity to grab something and shake it, like a rat). To train your puppy not to bite, try gently closing his mouth with your hand while petting and speaking soothingly to him. Also, give him a chew toy to properly use his mouth on. He will outgrow some of the biting, and all of it with your help. Wearing chain mail is another alternative.

When your pup bites, even if it doesn't hurt, you should say "ouch" in a high shrill voice. Your pup wants to play and doesn't know the limits. The high shrill noise sets the limit.

If you ever watch pups play together, they will wrestle and bite until one of them makes that high squeak bark that says its gone to far. Then the play stops for a moment. Your ouch will mimic how pups let each other know they've gone too far.

Make sure you provide toys that your pup can chew and teethe on... and please make sure they are DOG TOYS, not your old socks or slippers... dogs don't know the difference between the one you gave him, and your new ones that you want to wear!

I agree with jodik - make certain you provide your puppy with some dog toys. When your puppy bites or nibbles, give him a slight correction, just say no. and give him the toy, this teaches your puppy what not to do AND what you want him to do all at one time!! Keep up doing it. Everytime. As far as jumping goes, if you can snap your fingers near your dogs ear, back up and give a command, we tell our friends dog "four on the floor" and she will stop rising up on her back legs. Teach her to sit and stay, you are a perfect candidate for a class. Contact your local humane society and ask about socialization and behavior classes. Let them know your dog is still a puppy, and before training, go walk or ru or play with your dog, a tired dog is much easier to train than a fresh one. You need to remember, puppys explore the world with their noses and their mouths, it is all natural, which is why buying toys is so important. Go get yourself a kong you can fill with treats and go get some soft toys and a tennis ball and some squeekies for your pup to play with. Everytime you see your pup with something in its mouth it is not suppose to have, say DROP, and then encourage your pup to go play with its toys. Good luck with your new furbaby

If you do get a kong you can fill with treats, remember that peanut butter is NOT a dog treat! Peanut butter has oils that clog the hair follicles in animals... it will eventually make the hair fall out.

I'm against treats as a means to train dogs... lavish praise for a job well done is all a dog needs or wants from you. His main goal in life is to please you. I usually begin obedience training at about 5 or 6 months of age, although by then, the dog already has begun learning good home manners and is well beyond house-breaking.

Keep your training repetitious, keep the commands consistent, and praise a job well done... and you'll have an easy time and a well-trained dog. Work in blocks of 15 minutes to a half hour, and then let your little guy play... play with him! Have fun together!

Training will help by building the bond of love and trust between you and your pet, and by sticking to a training schedule, you'll end up with a well-mannered family companion.

Good idea about the shrill voice if they bite. My dog is nine months and only gently nibbles when real excited, so I will use this the next time. He has pretty good manners for a puppy tho..

My poodle did the same thing as a pup. This is what I did and it worked like a charm..learned it in puppy kindergarten. I put peanut butter on the back of my hand and let him lick it and when he did I'd say "kissy kiss." Did this several times during the day. The next time he started to bite,all I had to do was say kissy kiss and he'd begin licking me instead. Once in a great while he'll get nippy with my hands and when I say "kiss" he'll start licking.
