Teacher gifts

Today was the last day of school before Christmas break and look at all the wonderful homemade gifts I received! I was completely overwhelmed-several batches of puppy chow, inlcuding a strawberry version, homemade bread and pear preserves, buckeyes, orange cream fudge, a pan of chocolate chip brownies, cinnamon rolls, spiced pretzels, banana bread, and one of those mix in a jar of white chocolate cranberry nut cookies. Yum! Thought you guys would appreciate all the hard work that went into these gifts.

Wow! That's very thoughtful of you! I am sure they will appreciate all the yummy goodies.

I was too busy partying so just bought a hot chocolate gift set that came with short bread and a pair of mugs for little man's teacher. We have another half a day tomorrow so I will send some biscotti to the office for their snacks.

Nice to see people making gifts again. There's only so many cut coffee mugs one teacher can use, eh? :)

What about some Irish Dew - a bottle/can of Mountain Dew with the following poem on a tag: I ran into a leprechaun And asked if he'd been told Where the rainbow ended With the treasured pot of gold. He didn't know, but then gave me A special Irish brew (dew) To brighten your St. Paddy's Day I'm sharing some with you! OR..... Sit right down I have something for you, Here's a green bottle of very good brew. (of special Irish Dew) It's not a clover or rainbow or gold, Just a great drink, or so I've been told! That's going to get real expensive, really fast. My nephew is special needs. Here's what my SIL does. A gift card to the classroom teacher, usually to someplace the teacher can get classroom supplies. For everyone else, the one-on-one aide, the home nurses, the bus diver and aide, the therapists--she has my nephew make a card or a pencil holder or cookies or something else as gifts. My nephew's in fifth grade now and has a teacher, a teacher's aide, his own one-on-one aide, the bus driver, the bus aide, five different home nurses, physical therapists--home and school, occupational therapists--home and school, speech therapist, music therapist, two swim therapists (I don't know what they are really called, but they've worked some miracle and he can now swim unassisted), 11 doctors, the brace maker, the wheelchair guy, the mobility specialist and probably a few other people I'm forgetting. In your case, I'd give $25 gift cards to the teacher and the therapists. Then I'd give some sort of gift basket to the classroom--the teacher and the aides--something that they can easily split up amongst them. Cards for everyone else, handmade if your son can do that, or at least signed by him however he signs his name at this time. If you don't feel the card is enough, you can include a little thank you note of your own, thanking them for all the progress your son has made under their care. If you haven't had contact with someone, there's no need to give them anything at the holidays. I'm sure they won't be expecting it. (The nurse, the liaison.) I would think twice about spending that kind of money on a mug for a teacher. I know many teachers, both elementary and secondary, and all of them say that they receive too many mugs at Christmas. One teacher I know received 5 from her students one year. A much more appreciated gift would be a gift certificate to Office Depot or a teacher store or a book store. A Catholic High School where one of my children went had a school wide collection for the teacher's Christmas gift. The money was totaled up and every employee from the principal to the part time janitor received some money -- all an equal amount. It was done by the PTA. The teacher's loved it. Another school had the room mom take up a collection, and the teacher received a very nice gift certificate to the mall. She was thrilled!

Nice haul Tracey!!! And they all look really good! Will is in middle school now and has LOTS of teachers. I am going to make a double batch of Sharon's peppermint bark this weekend and they all will get a little...

Stacy oh - Terri that's good to know about the marshmallows...I've never made them - but want to. It will HAVE to wait till after the holidays though. I have to do something familiar. :-)

My kids are well beyond teacher gift giving. I don't remember making homemade goodies though. Usually my children gave gift certificates to Barnes & Noble. Or some interesting something from the MOMA catalog. Had I known goodies would be well received I might have cooked instead!

Oh believe me, I've received my share of coffee mugs LOL. I got two this year that were filled with goodies, so I was very excited. The love goes both way with these students-I'm a specialty teacher and this is my third year with some of these little ones so I've really gotten to know them and their families.

Jessy, aren't your kids older? I'm so impressed that you still give out gifts at all at that age. I'm sure they will love the gift cards!

Too funny about the marshmallows Terri! I've made them before and they are really good-definitely a novelty.

Stacy,my big boy is in middle school like Will but I didn't get teacher gifts this year-he has so many teachers and I know they really don't expect them so I'm sure Will's teachers will be thrilled with the peppermint bark. That's probably the most popular candy I make.

Barnmom, I'm grateful for anything I get. The gifts you sent sound wonderful! I was just so excited about all the goodies that obviously took a lot of time and effort to put together, especially in this day and age where many people don't have the time or inclination to bake.

Too cool Tracey! Looks like some yummy treats to me. My SM has been teaching for 30 plus years and has received her share of coffee mugs over the years...enough to stock a store. LOL! She always loved the homemade treats too.

Yup my kids are in high school. They can have up to six, or seven teachers if they sign up for that many classes. Multiply that by about 30 kids/class and thats a LOT of homemade goodies. I'm a very practical kind of gift giver, I figure if they don't want the restaurant.com certificates, I tell 'em how they can recycle/regift them to another person, LOL!

I think for spring break I'll give each teacher a ream of paper. Things are getting BAD in California.

I also give gift certificates to restaurants and dinner theatres to the teachers. My kids have had anywhere from 4-8 teachers each since first grade, so it does get expensive. I use halfoffdeals.com to get mine. (Again, the teachers don't know I only pay $25 for two-$25 gift certificates, so don't tell). My kids are currently performing again at the dinner theatre, so I was able to get certificates to the theatre through this site and some of my favorite teachers are coming to see my kids in the show this week (I only paid $50 for $100 worth of tickets)!

I've never tried restaurant .com -- I think I'll try that for a few of the gifts. Thanks, Jessy.
