Please help me with the layout of my new bathroom
Comments (19)I imagine there is a design principle that would serve as a guide as to how long a shower can be without looking odd. Unfortunately, I don't know where to find that information! Maybe someone else on this forum can help with that. My current linen closet (in the hallway) is 24" wide but due the framing of the door, the opening is only 17" wide. It is not very functional, IMHO. I recently built a new floor to ceiling closet in the master bedroom with sliding shoji doors (still waiting for the doors to be built). I included an 18" wide linen 'closet' and the space is totally accessible - much better design. Additionally, the shelves are on drawer runners because the closet is 24" deep and being able to slide out the shelves makes it much easier to get to that towel in the back! So, I suggest you take a good hard look at your linen situation and try to picture yourself actually getting things out and putting them away. From there you should be able to come up with a good solution. Comments (5)Thanks, that's just what we were thinking. We tried putting the (double) vanity on the outside wall to add a window (between the mirrors and have a lower lever makeup table) back to the room which moved the shower to the inside wall. I would love a walk in shower(for wheelchair access) with a tiled floor/drain and no shower pan, we found some river rock tile to use for the floor. I put the shower in to walk around the wall to get in for privacy--just saw a commercial for a rain shower head to eliminate water splash. Will try to attach the revised drawing (or find one of my kids to do it for me!) Any thoughts?...See MoreBathroom layout idea with 2 small bathrooms - including measurements
Comments (19)The "regular" bath layout that jensbride posted first is very similar to what our DD & DS shared for years and worked very well. The door, however, was a pocket style and placed directly across from the toilet. This allowed the vanity to be scooted around the corner to take up the whole wall. It leaves the toilet close to the tub, but with lots of elbow room. Our kids just learned to keep the door partially closed when the bath wasn't in use due to the "view"....See MoreBathroom remodel concerns
Comments (17)You can DIY this properly if you ask lots of questions, watch lots of youtube videos, and take the advice offered here. We all started somewhere without any knowledge, so you can do it if you have the right attitude and lots of patience. Just put a bowl or bucket under the valve and empty it regularly for now. Let the plumber address it when he comes to hook everything up. I would do all the demolition now, and put the shower back together first. You can then finish the rest of the drywall, then tile the floor, then install the vanity. You can use a bathroom with stud walls, and the drywall finishing will be much more efficient to do all at once instead of one wall at a time. But tiling the shower is going to take some time, especially if this is your first tiling job. And depending on whether you're reusing the pan or installing all new. You might consider putting in a modular fiberglass or acrylic setup instead. If you post more photos of the room, that might give us more to comment on. 4. You don't typically have insulation in interior walls. And regular drywall is fine everywhere but the shower walls....See Moresochi
