I finally went to a specialist for the injured finger. It was better but not enough so that I can knit or cut hard to chop vegetables or garden. He gave me a cortisone shot in the finger and hopes that will do it after a few weeks. Wish I had gotten the referral months earlier if that is all I needed.

I had the cortisone shot for my injured thumb. and then 9 months later had to get a second shot. That was 4 yrs ago and all has been good since.

Thank goodness shot 2 lasted. It would have been surgery otherwise.

Wonder what makes us wait, when all it took was a shot? Or a few stretching exercises (in my case)? Humans are funny creatures! Best of healing luck with your trigger finger.

Hi Deb...Sorry to hear about the night Al had. That is scary not knowing and then when they won't let you call. I know he doesn't lke the hospitals and who does? Glad it turned out fine. Have never heard of the tigger fingers. Hope all finds you all doing good. We had a round of cold weather too and a little dusting here in Kentucky. I am read yfor spring. Hasn't been to bad tho this winter at all. We just got back from Athens Alabama where my husband went for a job. He is a welder and pipefitter and didn't make the one tig test, so couldn't get the job. It was on a nuke plant. He can't see like he use to when he was younger, so actually that was a dry run. We also headed to Lima Ohio and no work there either at this time. We finally decided to head home and after many years of this traveling, Dh has retired. We are tired of this line of work. May go to Gulfport Miss and work just for supplmental pay. Anyway, girl you stay warm, and keep knitting those sweaters and gloves. I crochet, but don't knit. I would love to learn.....HUGS Gabby

You should see a doctor soon, as the most permanent fix short of surgery, is an injection of cortisone. The injection works best if done early on after the onset of the problem. My rheumatologist told me that in time, after 3 or more months, it is unlikely that the injection will do much good. Then a surgical fix is the best solution. Splinting the finger now will perhaps return the finger to normal function for awhile, but it will likely return. I had a trigger thumb years ago that I let go for several months. I finally had to have surgery (it is a minor procedure, but still surgery). Last winter a trigger finger developed in the ring finger of my right hand. I kept hoping it would fix itself, wrapped it at night, etc. Finally after 4 months of it's getting worse and worse I saw my rhumatologist. He injected it, and it got completely normal in about 2 weeks. However, in the last month it is slowly returning. I have an appointment with my doctor next week.

My thumbs were snapping. A shot in each....yikes that hurt, but it solved the problem. Now the ring fingers on both hands want to lock occasionally. This getting old isn't for wimps. LOL

Oh boy, I feel your pain...Trigger finger is terrible...But, those shots are worth it.

Actually, he used a topical pain killer, and it was not bad at all.

I had it in one finger went to the dr he talked about a shot~~creeped me out. He said it may go away so I waited and it did;)

I had a trigger thumb right hand. An injection only helped slightly for a short time. Had surgery to correct it. This was about 20 years ago. I have had no problem with it again. About 10 years ago the left thumb had it's turn. One injection cleared it up and it is still okay. Now my right ring finger is taking a turn. Not enough of a bother to seek treatment yet.

I had trigger finger in my ring and middle finger on my left hand. Had a shot in each one of them help a little would catch every now and then but they would ache. Then on my right hand my middle finger started catching but didn't get a shot in that one.That one would ache too. Funny thing got a new to me car last summer and my fingers started getting better. I decided it was because my other car didn't have power steering and this car does. Once in a while my finger on my right hand will catch, but the left hand doesn't bother me at all.

My friend who has pain gets cortisone shots, but one doesn't want to get a large number, he says, so he delays until the pain gets bad.
