You should see a doctor soon, as the most permanent fix short of surgery, is an injection of cortisone. The injection works best if done early on after the onset of the problem. My rheumatologist told me that in time, after 3 or more months, it is unlikely that the injection will do much good. Then a surgical fix is the best solution. Splinting the finger now will perhaps return the finger to normal function for awhile, but it will likely return.

I had a trigger thumb years ago that I let go for several months. I finally had to have surgery (it is a minor procedure, but still surgery). Last winter a trigger finger developed in the ring finger of my right hand. I kept hoping it would fix itself, wrapped it at night, etc. Finally after 4 months of it's getting worse and worse I saw my rhumatologist. He injected it, and it got completely normal in about 2 weeks. However, in the last month it is slowly returning. I have an appointment with my doctor next week.

There's three steps you can take with a trigger finger. Mind was in my right pinkie.

Did a search and I did this:
Anti-inflammatory medication: Day Pro prescription from doctor
1.Splints *Made my own, using an emory board, cut to fix the inside of my pinkie, to keep it from bending, and masking tape. Slept with it all nite.
2.Steroid injection
3.Surgery

Luckily mine was not that severe and after several months of sleeping with splints, problem is gone for NOW.

Doctor, at last physical, said I did well with the splints.

I had a trigger thumb years ago and after awhile, it went away and thank goodness, hasn't come back...At that time, I had no idea what it was and didn't go to the doctor...Can be very painful...

I've got that going on with 3 fingers on my right hand! All 3 are usually "locked down" tight when I first wake up. Slowly, they "turn loose"..and other than being sore, I'm good to go until the next morning!

You have to splint your fingers EVERY NITE, to make it work.
Trust me, done that! Sleep with the splint! It works!
