I used Scherr's cabinets in my DIY kitchen remodel, and I was really happy with the quality of the construction, and with how easy they were to assemble (by the end it was taking about 10 minutes to assemble a wall cabinet) Additionally given the adjustable leg-levelers that come with the cabinets, the process of installing the base cabinets so that they were perfectly flat and level was relatively easy for a complete cabinet installation novice to do. Also I cannot speak more highly of the customer service at Scherr's, before the sale in the planning stages, during the cabinet build process as I emailed in some last minute changes and tweaks, and after the the cabinets were finished and shipped. During installation (which was about two months after the cabinets were shipped to me, due to other parts of the remodel taking longer than I planned) I discovered two problems caused by one of my last minute changes, (changing from one brand of drawer slide to another) they changed the drawer slides they included but didn't change the program controlling where the holes were drilled. When I contacted Scherr's about the problem they responded the same day and shipped a fix for the problem to me within about three days. I was also very happy with the final price from Scherr's (about $17000) I ended up with completely custom, shaker style, quarter-sawn red oak cabinets in a custom-colored finish that are both beautiful and functional, for only about twice what it would have cost for the nearest comparable kitchen cabinet setup from Ikea. The only complaints I've ever heard about Scherr's are sometimes when they get busy their lead time can grow pretty long, (like 12 weeks or so) but they seem to be very accurate with their estimate of how long it will take.

I've been waiting for a quiet morning with a cup of coffee to soak in your reveal. WOW!!! I keep getting up to show my husband another set of before & after pictures. There are so many things to comment on. The new exterior is beautiful. The entry area & staircase redesign sets the stage for the rest of this truly lovely transformation. I love, love, love the kitchen table area with the windows, french doors & window seat. When I saw the 3-D pics with the peninsula, I had to go back & locate the peninsula. It blends in perfectly with the eating area. Absolutely love the Costa Esmeralda. I can just imagine you posting your marble tiles with the countertop & asking for advice with many of us saying "too busy & don't do the framed insert above the stove." It's perfect & it's stunning. I love the colors of the glass tiles with the Costa Esmeralda. Big Congratulations! I'm looking forward to the outside pictures & pics of the fireplace built-ins. Step stool storage - genius!

My house is a very formal 1951 Southern Colonial Cape Cod traditional home. So, I was very conscious of trying to honor the traditional style. Rather than doing the stacked cabinet, consider what I did with the larger single wall cabinet and dropped soffit trimmed with crown and trim moldings. It wasn't difficult to do the dropped soffit. It might save you a significant sum of money. I think it might be worth exploring. I love the BS range top. It's a beast. I scrimped in other areas to get that range top. I'm glad I did. Don't forget the ventilation. It adds to the cost. I recycled the existing Vent-A-Hood. If you have to wait a year in order to save up for it, I would do it. Once you fire it up, you will understand the difference. I was replacing a very nice Thermador cooktop. I am happy customer. It was a good decision. About the tall utensil storage drawer, we had a very deep drawer in a three-drawer stack. The two drawers above are the same size as all of the other top drawers throughout. The remaining space in the stack is taken up by the single tall drawer. One warning, the drawer face is very heavy. So be sure to have really beefy drawer slides on that drawer. The Blum slides were plenty hefty. We purchased a bunch of of bain marie's from Amazon. We bought a piece of fancy maple veneer plywood from Lowe's and a can of spray-on varnish. We traced the outline of the bottom of the bain marie's on the plywood and cut out the outline with a hole saw attachment on our drill. We sprayed the plywood with the varnish and let it dry. It looks just like the maple finish of the rest of the interior. We attached a couple of pieces of wood on each side and back of the drawer to allow the plywood form to rest on them. We dropped the ban marie's into the slots and filled them with utensils. It was pretty simple once you thought about it. You can do something similar with the Rev-a-shelf pull out drawer, remove some of the shelves and add ban marie's. There are a number of examples if you ask for them on GW.

Hi, I have an order in at Scherrs right now, based on your blog, love what you did! I have the same question as Shelby above from April 10, 2020. Did you get your Caesarstone through ikea, if so do you remember the name/color? IKEA is telling me they may be having a sale on countertops next month. Also, the marble behind your cook top, have you had any issues with oil splashes effecting the marble? Lastly can you give me the height of your backsplash leading up to the little shelf?Thx for your time and great info.
