Will The Pear Slices Turn Brown?

I've made appetizers for a party I am going to later tonight. Proscuitto nests with honey goat cheese and tiny slices of pears. I put fruit fresh and lemon juice on the pears. I have another party before the one I am bringing the appetizer to so want to put the pears on now. Will this work or will they turn brown?

Should be okay. I will be anxious to hear because I'm making a salad with pears next week and would like to cut the pears ahead of time. I usually put apple slices in a citrus soda and was planning on doing the same with the pears. It works for a pretty long time with the apple slices.

So far so good. I'm leaving for the 1st place now so let's hope two hours from now they still look nice. Thanks for responding. Great idea on the soda.

Thank you so much for all of your help. rayrose, I am going out to prune out those branches, as soon as it stops raining. And, mamuang, thank you so much for the Fire blight fact sheet. It is very helpful. I am going to get them sprayed ASAP, right after I prune those infected branches. Hopefully, I can save my pear tree and my pears.

Leslie, I don't agree with what the nursery told you. I have similar leaves this spring on my pears and they all formed well after frost danger had passed during a period when my apples had a lot of fireblight. In seeing many such leaves over the years I have rarely seen the firelight progress on them, there was not enough of an infection for the disease to propagate. One thing they could be correct about is there is some chance it is frost damage. Scott

Dave: If you have used anything close to two gallons of water in a little more than a week on a tree in a nursery pot, that's the other reason it's not looking good. Just put it in the ground and don't worry about it. The tree will probably be just fine. Let the rain water it. You should be getting some of that soon. Dig a nice wide hole and unscramble the roots if they have circled around in the pot. And no soil amendments in the hole. Just replace the native soil, and maybe mulch a little around the surface. the planting was a tad late.. and it does not have the roots to hold on to 'perfect' leaves ... especially int eh heatwave wait until it dries.. water as you will then go dig a small hole ... and see if you are actually getting any water down into the root zone.. where the tree needs it ... if it sopping wet 6 to 12 inches deep.. then stop watering completely.. until it dries at depth .. a potential problem in clay ... all that said.. just admit to yourself that it is september.. and from now until October ... its all down hill ... and the leaves are going to get worse and worse looking ... until they fall off the tree ... personally i am not concerned about bugs this time of year.. they will all be dead in a month or so .. ken

Thanks again for your input. They were perfect! In fact they were the one appetizer that several people were saying, "You have to try this". I was really happy they went over so well and looked nice!

your appetizer sounds lovely. I'm trying a new one Friday night with apple slices, goat cheese and a sprinkling of chopped pistachios and chopped candied ginger. I'll soak the apple slices in Mountain Dew until ready to assemble. Glad to hear the pears held up> I will cut them ahead of time, too.
