Hope you have resolved your issues with your countertop. Just a note about my experience with my white macaubus quartzite. I had it sealed on installation with StoneTech Bulletproof sealer. The first weekend, my husband sat a buttery spatula on the countertop. I estimate it sat on the countertop an hour and it left a large grease stain. I was quite surprised (LOL flipped out) that my $10K countertops were marred in the first few days. The stone company came out and applied a poultice made by StoneTech and it took about 4 days to pull the grease out of the stone. We then had it re-sealed. My husband is enthusiastic about cooking, but has made numerous oil stains in the past few months, so I purchased the product line and have used the poultice several times with good results. I maintain it with their cleaning product which also applies a small amount of sealer regularly. My research shows that most of the sealers won't protect against oil. The stone does darken with water left on the surface, but that dries out.

I find it interesting that in an earlier comment it was mentioned that the slabs are stored outside. However immediately below is an answer from QM about whether their quartz can be used outside. I don't believe 93% quartz and 7% resin is the amount used in Breton technology. When I spoke to another company which makes quartz in China, I was told that they use the Samsung method and that it is not heated to the high degree that the Breton technology uses. I chose not to purchase the quartz made in China. Can Quartz Master be used outdoors? Please note that outdoor use of our products is not covered by our Lifetime Warranty. Quartz Master’s products have not been tested under prolonged exposure to UV rays. Unfortunately, installing our products outdoors will render our Lifetime Warranty null and void.

jdknyc, this may be too late to help you, but I'll post it anyway in case you are still looking or someone else wants a darker BS to use with white quartzite. My designer recently recommended Nine Lives from the Crossville Color by Numbers collection. It is a medium-dark gray with bluish tones, and the sample we have really worked with the dark vein colors in the slabs we held it up to. I am not sure if we will use it since I pictured a lighter BS next to our walnut uppers. I think the Nine Lives would look great with your white cabinets and white quartzite. Hi all, I apologize because this is somewhat off topic, but it's pretty important for anyone considering quartzite, or that bought it and it etched. We are in love with Quartzite Bianca (aka Luce de Luna) as an alternative to marble, because we don't want to deal with etching. We put a slab on hold and have been so excited.. until... I started reading posts on this website about quartzite etching. It's been quite the mystery of why some say their quartzite etches, and others, with the same material, has not. Finally I think we got to the bottom of it, in working with my fabricator who contacted the Marble Institute of America. Turns out some suppliers (they're the ones who obtain it from the quarry and sell it to distributors who we buy it from) apply a resin or sealer before it's shipped. They do this to enhance the look of the stone. But, they are ruining the stone because it makes it highly susceptible to acid etching, which quartzite is normally resistant to. This is why some people found their countertops etched after it was installed, and others did not. I am not talking about the sealer your fabricator applies to protect against staining. I am talking about a resin or sealer applied by the supplier before it's shipped to the distributor that changes the chemical composition of the stone, making it likely to etch. At least according to my fabricator, they can't polish the subsequent etching out because polishing done by the supplier at or near the quarry is different than what fabricators do. There is a difference between the original polish, which uses heavy duty grinding, versus what a fabricator does, as in polishing edges and a fabricator may or may not be able to match the original polish. I'll keep talking with my sources, who are getting this information from the Marble Institute of America (MIA), to see if anyone has been able to remedy etched quartzite due to resinating the slab. One other way quartzite can etch, according to the MIA is by exposure to a dilute form of hyrdofluoric acid, as found in household cleaners. You may be using a mild cleaner on your quartzite, but be sure not to expose it to a harsher cleaner that you might use on your stainless steel sink, for instance. If anyone knows of the thread where the discussion took place on why quartzite countertops are etching, and you can forward this post, that would be great. I'll keep looking too. My heart goes out to folks who have paid a premium for this material, been told it will not etch from acid, and it does. The place you bought it from should be responsible if they told you it would not etch. I know one place here in Portland, OR had to deal with a customer on this for exactly this reason.
