If we have a white dog...then should we have a white kitchen?
Comments (36)Awwwwww, these are all soooo cute. And very well-coordinated. ; ) Our whole family oohed, ahhhed, and giggled over your posts. : ) Our Feliz (you can sing her song with me: "Feliz naughty-dog...") is a three year old poodle-something that we got a year ago. I tease that she's crossed with a fool, which makes her a "foodle". She's a *great dog and has been an incredibly good fit for our family. Believe it or not, she does occasionally peel herself off the furniture to help clean up the kitchen. She especially likes helping "pre-rinse" the dishes as they're loaded into the DW. I think we'll have to match our floors to the dirt, since fluffy white flooring is definitely out of the question. :-) I was over to the house today, tacking up all kinds of paint chips. We're going to have to repaint pretty much everything downstairs, so it'll be a fresh start. Everywhere. Fun, but a bit overwhelming. It's an old house with high ceilings. Painted woodwork. Wood floors (that need refinishing.) Quite a bit of light in most of the rooms. The kitchen is a bit darker though, having a window on the north side and being in the middle of the run of the rooms. We'll be opening the kitchen some, so it needs to work with the whole scheme. Whatever that is. Maybe I should build off of Olivia instead?...See MoreAnyone have white macoubas quartzite for their kitchen counters?
Comments (12)Kaysd, your counters are gorgeous. Lcskaisgir, what I meant by dull is that they seemed darker than yours or kaysd's slabs. I noticed that in the same cut as kaysd's they appeared lighter, but I wanted the cross cut which is more of a swirl rather than straight lines. The color of yours is what I am looking for and haven't found them. I went back to the same place a second time and they seemed to have more light coming in and they looked a bit lighter. I have bad lighting and am worried they will appear flat (no life to them). I have the same problem when I pick glass tile, they are all sparkly in the store and no life when I bring them home. I have to pick something soon so I'm in a panic state because I thought I could just do quartz if I can't find quartzite but even with that I haven't found anything that I love....See MoreWhite Macaubas quartzite or Cambria Ella quartz?
Comments (20)I am a fabricator. The various quartz slab manufacturers have spent a lot of effort trying to make white colors that mimic stone like Carerra marble and some of the quartzites. In the case of the marbles there is a substantial advantage in the material properties (scratch resistance, stain resistance, resistance to etching) for the quartz products vs. the marble which compensates somewhat for the fact that the beauty of the marble is still unmatched. The quartzites, however, are extremely durable and IMHO still have a substantial advantage in appearance particularly if you take the time to select your particular slab(s). There is a tool in the stone industry called a gloss meter. It measures the "depth of the shine" for polished materials. The quartz products will measure in the low 40's while most polished natural stones will be mid 50's or higher. To the consumer this difference is best described by the comment that the natural stone looks "wetter". If you want a polished look the natural stone will be better, This difference is obvious when you put a sample of like colors of quartz and natural stone side by side. my 2 cents....See MoreWhite Macaubas Quartzite and MSI Cararra Marmi Quartz Countertops
