Pls. recommend a cabinet painter NYC area

After researching past threads I have the list that Greendesigns posted about the steps necessary for professional cabinet painting.

I interviewed one person who refused to tell me what brand paint he used and what cleaner. It was a trade secret(???) huh ?. Shouldn't I be able to pick out my own paint and supply it to the painter ?

Since I am unable to paint my cabinets myself, I would like a referral to a skilled painter. Please give me referrals and how you proceeded with the job...THANK YOU

Boxerpups: All the photos you post are a big help to all of us but it was incredibly helpful to me when you posted photos of different colored painted cabinets. Keep them coming. (As soon as I figure out how to post a photo I will be asking you for help in deciding on a color.)

I feel so much better about buying gently used cabinets now. The boxes are good construction(3/4 birch ply) but the doors need a new life and I think color is the answer :)

Hi, I too am having my cabinets painted. I did pick my paint, and was told how he was going to clean the cabinets and get them ready for painting. I did decide to purchase new door, because old doors shouted country, and I want traditional. He is starting the painting next week, and if I am happy will give you his name, I live on eastern long island.

Thank you ilene-84. What paint manufacturer did you use and did you supply the paint ? I'm making a list of paint companies...:)
I'm only dealing with 4 base and 2 uppers 2 towers.
Did you sign a contract or handshake ?

We used a fantastic independent cabinet maker, Richard Sanca, to do a very large built-in bookcase in our brownstone. He is detail-oriented, a real artist, well priced and his work is impeccable. Backsplash Tile Remover Rec in NYC area?

I'm not in NYC, but when I hired my contractor to do the backsplash he gave me an estimate for removal of old tile, removal of countertops, and plumbing faucet hookup (after counters and sink are in) for the same price that the countertop installers were going to charge me to remove the countertops and hookup the plumbing. So I basically got the tile removal for free since I was planning on paying the installers for the other items. If your installers are charging you for these items separately it may be worth seeing if you can get a similar deal.

I just discovered inset cabinets and just found out that the quote from my cabinet maker does not include inset. He will do it for an upcharge which is ok. However, though he states he has done it before and I've asked to see some prior work, I would like to get other quotes. Can someone recommended a trusted cabinet maker in the NYC area? I'm interested in a white painted modified shaker inset cabinet. Thank you! PS- i called Dutch Wood and they will come to Brooklyn, so I've asked them to price my project.

beccamj, I would be interested in talking to your GC - could you send me his contact info? I did read your wacky contractor stories, but I am also lured by him being reasonably priced... I'm looking for painted white cabinets with shaker-style (or some slight modification of shaker-style) doors. Ideally the cabinets would be frameless, as I am trying to maximize storage in my tiny (~9.5x7.5) galley kitchen. Thanks!
