Love this piece! Could it be a TV console?

I've been looking for a couple pieces to finish up furnishing my summer home- been all over, including antique and specialty shops. Two must have (soon) pieces are a dresser for my bedroom and a TV console for living room. Well on my way out of Homegoods, I passed this and froze, looked around the swarms of people there on a Saturday afternoon, and practically tackled a clerk to bring it up front. As soon as he placed it on a wheelie cart at least 3 people tried to grab it. No thank you-SOLD my friends.

Anyway it's just what I've been looking for, color size and all. Plus it's a RL Home piece. Sooo the big dilemma- do I use it in bedroom as intended, or for my TV console? (the measurements are PERFECT for the space!)

48"Lx32"Hx21"D I normally wouldn't consider a dresser for a TV, but it would give me some extra storage space that is much needed.

Would it look silly to have a dresser in the LR? It "goes" in each room as far as decor, but not sure I've seen a dresser used for TV.

What do you all think?

I'd use it as a console in a heartbeat, great looking piece! I'm rehabbing an old wood desk I found on Craig's List for a console, I was looking for nearly the same dimensions as you (and looked for months) but ended up settling for 42" wide, it'll still work well, can't wait until it's done. Your's will look perfect in either room of your summer home but I'd have it out where everyone else can drool over it. lol

Thanks dilly_ dally for putting in the picture. That is what it looks like. I do not know how to post pictures. For a larger picture go to hookerfurniture.com, click on home entertainment, than tv consoles size 60". It is model #371-55-457 and enlarger picture shows more detail of the carved pannels and nailhead.

@Ashley George - if you’re asking about the photo right before your question, I’ve seen many of these for sale. The least expensive option that has good reviews is starting with IKEA pieces of furniture. I’ve never bought anything from IKEA but am trying to decide about how to arrange a media wall. IKEA has some pieces that can be floated even though they aren’t marketed that way. Some of their consoles are meant to be hung on the wall. I am still considering this option: Samsung - the frame TVs. Really cool. Come with a lot of art loaded. You pick your frame. TV sits flat against wall.

I looked at yours again then looked at and measured ours. We have a 60" TV sitting on a 62" console...but the wall it is on is only about 68" long so we could not have gone with a longer console....there's about 3" of wall on each side. And I think that's the reason ours looks OK...the entire wall is TV and console. Since you have wall space on each side, it makes the console look dwarfed. Putting something on each side will make it look more proportional. I like the idea of a tall plant by the window. Maybe taller candleholders on the other side like the ones you have by the window, or even a large vertical print.

Plenty of people are using dressers for their TV stand. I don't know why anyone is buying a TV stand, when the dressers are usually the perfect size!

I think it's perfect for a television with nice drawers for storage. If you wanted, you could even re-do the top drawer with hinges and put your cable box, external speakers or DVR in there.

I love the hinged top drawer idea! That is exactly why I posted, thanks F2BH. Would you mount the TV on the wall above or just house it on the dresser? Pre-reno the TV was mounted on the wall awaiting a nice stand but never got the chance to get one before we had the "pipe freeze-up" prompting the gut job! So I have all the mounting hardware if I decide on wall mount. Plus it has an adjustable arm since it is in a corner. Thoughts?

Glad I could spark an idea. I would probably put the television on top of the chest rather than wall mounting it unless the articulating arm makes positioning the television easier for your uses. Of course, then you have to hide the cables and power cord, but you know your room and needs best.

IF you plan on putting your cable box, dvd, etc. in it. You will need to put ventilation holes for the equipment. I would guess putting them in the back would work.

There would have to be holes for wires so that would cover ventilation I would imagine. Four 2" holes would probably be sufficient. Hopefully I'll remember to save the discs to fill the holes if I ever want to use it as a dresser!

JEALOUS!!!!!!!!! That is an incredible piece!!! I love it and have been searching for something exactly like that for my bedroom to put underneath our wall mounted TV. The hinge idea for a drawer is excellent! Yes I think it work fabulous in a living room as well. And of course if you get tired of it, I will happily take it off your hands!
