Another hot chocolate question.....

The Polar Express party is set for Saturday and I'm pretty much ready to be invaded by a bunch of 6 year olds :) I'm not sure, though how to keep the hot chocolate warm until we are ready for it. I decided to follow the advice I got here and just mix milk and nesquick or ovaltine. I'm afraid if I just mix it up in my dutch oven and keep it over low heat, it's going to get a skin on it and make the hot chocolate lumpy. Any suggestions?????

Couldn't find a Cocoa~Latte Machine? LOL

I used mine yesterday with the 5th graders..and they Loved the cocoa bar..They were mixing all kinds of flavors together! LOL

I'm sure it won't skim over to quickly, just remember to stir occasionally...Crock pot or small dutch oven...Could you borrow a coffee maker from someone...the percolating kind with the spigot? That's what I use at my concession stands.

I definitely used some of your ideas from the cocoa bar thread! I would love to get my hands on a percolator, but then again I'm wondering if it would be too hot for the kids. I'm planning on serving this lukewarm to warm as I don't want to chance anybody getting burned. I'll just have to put one of the moms in charge of stirring!

One thing you might want to do...roll the marshmallows flat & cut them into train shapes with a small cookie cutter. Mind you, I said "might". I did this for a halloween party once (ghosts, cats, bats) and it was a hit. Don't forget the mini candy canes. Actually, depending on how involved you want to get, there are a ton of train related websites that sell things like chugga chews (train shaped cookies in a train shaped box) to train shaped lollipops to train shaped train whistes. Both my son & husband are train mad so I know too, too much about this. There's also nordicware's Train cake pan... Tracey when serving to kids, I always pour half of hot in and then add a dash of milk..or alot of whipped cream! LOL

I do understand the need to cool it down..little ones that age wanna gulp!!!! LOL

I've put Hot Cocoa in my 30 cup coffee urn (percolator) and it worked really well. I guess you could just unplug the urn when the gang arrives... or make the cocoa strong and then add extra milk just before serving.
