Sewer Problems

I own a 1920s house in Columbia SC. Twice in three months, following heavy rains, the sewage has backed up through the drain on the basement floor. The plumber has now cleaned it out twice, but I need a permanent fix. I see cast iron pipe in the basement, and I'm assuming outside the house it is either clay (the usual material for old houses in the area I'm told) or cast iron, but that it has a break, that roots have invaded, and that something is happening to let storm water into the system and force the sewage back into the lowest outlet in the house. OK, why after the rain ends does it not drain back OUT of the basement? It just stands there.

I'm hiring a company to put a camera down the sewer and we'll "see" what it is--a colonoscopy for the sewer. Then I need to make a decision about replacing all or part of the sewer pipe from the house to the city line OR relining the sewer pipe, which I've read is a fairly new solution.

I welcome your diagnoses and advice on solutions.
