I'm not finished :( I'm just done with a project which was keeping things off-kilter. Everything which belongs in the kitchen is now back in the kitchen. All of the rooms have their right belongings in them. Whew! I did tear down the brick wall (and he tore down the soffit and cabinets) separating the kitchen and living room yesterday though, so now I can say the microwave is "back in the living room". Not really, it's all one room now. We only have to tear down the wall (to put in the back door), the wall in-between the master bedroom and utility room, and the "old" bathroom. Then we'll have to put up the closet wall and hallway. It's the getting the projects done standing in the way which is what delays de-construction. Right now, we can't tear down the old bathroom until the new is done. Until the old one is torn down, we can't put in the closets. If can't put in the closets, we can't tear down the wall in-between the utility room and the master bedroom... So seeing any concrete progress, now matter how small, is just wonderful.

i had this problem too with the sinks we installed in 2014 when we bought the house. we threw out the 1975 cultured marble counters that were one with the sinks and installed new sinks and cheap remnants until we were ready to do a full master bath renovation. we are doing the full reno now and I didn't think to measure the sinks during demolition to make sure I didn't make the same splashing all over sink size mistake again. I think the demo guys kept the remnants and the sinks since they were only 6 years old, but i'm not sure which one of the demo guys did and I only have the head guy's number. anyway, our vanity is 87 inches and I don't want giant sinks but I don't want tiny ones either. when I washed my face water would end up everywhere and even on the floor with the sinks we had previously. it would drip onto the floor from the counter. I have never had this problem before and I don't want to have it again. those sinks weren't really THAT small, so i'm not sure what the deal was. i'd love to go with a 16x11 rectangle sink because my slab is gorgeous and I you can never have too much counter space when doing hair and makeup, but I certainly don't want water everywhere again.

One problem with making this decision is that your needs change as your family grows - both in number and in years. For example my sister in law put an island in her new kitchen instead of a table when her kids were small. The twins were constantly falling off the tall stools,and she really liked the idea of gathering around a table for family dinner so she ripped out the island, and bought a table. That was several years ago. Now she is missing the workspace (and her prep sink, which went away with the island) and, regrettably, there are fewer opportunities for family dinners with older kids rushing off to sports and other evening activities. We are fortunate enough to have room for a peninsula with seating as well as a table. But it does seem somewhat redundant. Especially as we also have a dining room with table (which I'm certain will never get used except holidays.) However, we are a family of 6, so we could never fit entirely around a peninsula or island. I do think kitchen tables are underutilized especially when entertaining - everyone crowds in the kitchen and some perch themselves on a peninsula barstool, but who goes and sits at the kitchen table? I think it's because it is so low compared to the rest of the counters. A friend of mine bought a counter-height kitchen table and tall chairs to try and include the table area more in the overall kitchen scheme. I thought about that but I found a traditional round kitchen table that I really love so I am going with that.
