Can someone be happy for me? I found my kitchen fixture!

I have had my heart on a pendant entry-type fixture for above my kitchen island, but WOW they can get pricey! The next best option, a boring little chandy, just wasn't making me happy at all.

Well, last night I was cruising around the net and saw my love on clearance for $93. As you can imagine, I snapped it up in a heart beat!

My husband is out-of-town today and I don't have anyone else here to get giddy with me (or who understands this sort of thing), so I thought I would share! It is for the kitchen I am planning, classic white cabs/black counters, but with a twist.

Paint_chips...I'm happy for you! The first thing you want to do when you get a bargain is tell everyone about it!
I'm wanting the same fixture for over my island (due for installation the week of April 20th) and had priced one this week at $263.00. I thought that was a bargain because another store had quoted me $300.00! I haven't puchased it yet. Do you want to share where you got yours?

Thanks paxfleur and Frank for your comments. Oh, Frank, I love your Candyfloss, it's so beautiful! I wish mine would turn out to be Candyfloss. Also, you know, I think I've got seriously infected with the "amaryllis fever"... I went back to the market for a 2nd trip and got another bulb, which I tried not to buy in the first trip... This one has two almost-spent blooms but there're still 2 buds, and one more scape coming up too. I love its deep red color and I had to go back to get it, although it cost wayyyy toooo much ($2.50). I guess maybe because of the Lunar New Year coming up, flowers are more expensive. Here's a pix of my second buy. Maybe Red Lion? Can you identify, pls. Thank you. And then, to make everything worse, when I was buying some pots... I saw a cluster of 5 budding amaryllis bulbs in a big pot that was selling for $10.00! I asked to have it for $8.00 and they agreed! I couldn't carry the pot home on my motorbike...so hubby will have to pick it up for me tomorrow! I'll post a pix when I have it at home. Wow, I'm going to have lots of hippis for Tet holiday (Tet = Lunar New Year) which is coming up in two weeks time. I'm so glad I went to the market today! Xuan (feeling so great!)

SAA203: May I suggest that you choose a neutral color for the time being for your kitchen? When I say neutral, I do not mean gold. I, too, have BC floors and a lot of cool grey colors in my granite, but warm whites. I wanted a gold color, too, but decided to mute it out and wait until my backsplash was installed. Plus, my floors darkened considerably in just a few months, so I'm really glad I didn't add the gold now. You add gold to those walls and your cabinets will really start to 'yellow out'. I was shocked to see how much 'yellow' they picked up off of the walls even with Clam Island, and it's not yellow. I am going to do a bit more painting now that I am getting ready to choose window treatements and believe that with my backsplash and granite to either beige up the walls a bit since I have brown glaze on the cabinets with Parisian Taupe OR either go a touch more gold with Toasted Cashew, both by Behr....and both look good. I love the SW blonde. I got a sample the other day and it's just too gold for my kitchen. I don't have a lot of natural light and cannot afford to go any darker than the Toasted Cashew. My point: I would really wait until you have your backsplash chosen before I would commit to such a strong gold in your kitchen, unless you know that you'll just love it and that it won't compete with what you use on your backsplash. When I got my backsplash, it had a lot more rose to the stone that I imagined, so I know the SW Blonde would not have worked. Clam Island or Parisian Taupe are winners hands down and you just can't go wrong type of colors. The taupe has just a bit more pink, which I think compliments the brown/red tones in the cabinets and flooring; hence why I'm thinking I may go with this eventually in my kitchen after all of the cabinets are done. However, Clam Island is just a perfect neutral. It has enough depth to be a brown, enough gold to work with gold carpets and not overpower other colors. It's no longer in Behr's Color paint chips, but the color is in their computer at HD. I've used Clam Island in several homes as my 'base' color and I come back in and add depth or lighten. It's definitely not a beige or tan or offwhite. It's a lovely base color. I mixed it half and half on some of my ceilings, too. Here is Clam Island in different rooms so you can see how it goes with so many colors. (I think it does.) Ignore the green tint on the cabinets...we've redone them. Notice the colors in the tile and mosaic...they have the tones of the Clam Island that I used on the walls in my kitchen. newhomebuilder...don't mind me, I'm going blind! Seriously, I didnt see the hip section on the left but now I do. So with your drawing, there will be three triangular shapes including the exsiting hip. Gotcha! When my parents did theirs the roof line was just straight across and it was very easy to add on. Their door was not recessed back at all. So now I want to see what you're doing to YOUR house...LOL. I thought you had a brand new one?? rdsso, I can't wait to see how this turns out for you! I like what you did with the matchstick blinds and curtains, better than the roman shades. I wouldn't order those blinds if the shipping is high (I had bamboo ones in my old apartment that I bought at target for decently cheap). Leanne- I'm glad to share! Can't believe I forgot. It is from Lighting Universe. They have lots of different styles/finishes for a lot better prices than other places. Shipping was free, no tax either. Go to "pendants" then "entry".

I won't say what the twist is... yet! Let's just say that I am hoping that a couple of my material choices will make it special.

HINT: No subway tile!

ooooh that is my favorite pendant style! I dont have a place for one but I love it, and the price is amazing! They are sooooo expensive.

Thanks you, really, thank you everyone! It can be a bit of a downer when you don't have anyone to revel in your decorating successes. I am so thankful for all of your kind words and encouragement.

Artlover- I am glad to hear that you had a good experience with them. I ordered in the dark of the night, grabbed a couple hours sleep, and awoke to an e-mail saying that it shipped. It was so fast that I thought I was dreaming.

The twist came from a very modest budget that prompted me to really examine options that I might not have considered if I had the cash to whip it all together in a flash. White cabs and black granite are the cheapest option so I made the (tough) decision to work with that and put my resources toward things to make it special.

I will get to make some pretty fun decisions coming up and can't wait to get everyone's help!
