I have used a Cover Girl product called Simply Powder #535. I have been looking for it and it looks like they dropped that number. I bought a lighter color and it makes me look pale. I am not very good with make up, have never used base, and didn't wear any thing except lipstick until I was into my late 30s..

My daughter just introduced me to her new favorite mascara- L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes. It's a 2 part mascara. The first application is a white base that nourishes and provides a base for the second application - which of course is black.

The mascara actually forms little tubes around your eyelashes. She assured me that if I applied it carefully I wouldn't end up with my usual raccoon eyes from smearing my mascara. She was right. It didn't smear.

I bought two of them at Target and I had a $2.00 off coupon for one and a $1.00 coupon on the other - I think with tax they were $17.00

It does wash off with warm water but I found it easier to use my makeup remover.

Last week there was a segment on Good Morning America with Good Housekeeping's latest recommendations on the best products for aging skin. What I found interesting is that they listed the key ingredients to look for in each of the products and then described why that ingredient was beneficial.

Most of the products they mentioned were very reasonable and available in most drug stores. If you check GMA's website you can find the link to the full article in the GH magazine.

I love makeup lol. I have been using Cover Girl Advanced Radiance foundation and am really happy with it and it is reasonably priced. I love the Glimmeraticks eyeliners and brow pencils fromAvon too. My new treat is Urban Decay eye shadow, lip liner and gloss. It is expensive though so I probably wont splurge on that too often but I have found that with their products a little goes a long way so it lasts awhile.

I've never used anything but Merle Norman cosmetics.

I have used it all, and the best for me is Estee Lauder. It stays on longer than any of the others I've tried. I do use powder--I think it "sets" the foundation, but when I was in my Bare Minerals phase--that accentuated any wrinkles I had. I know so many women that love BMs, but I'm not one of them. When I found Estee Lauder I wanted to shout I was so excited. I used Clinique for years, but it looked like it was totally gone by noon. Estee Lauder still looks at night like it did the first thing in the morning when I put it on. Now, that's makeup!!

I not a make-up expert when it comes to fashion make-up but I can tell you this. The marketing of light catching luminescence to older women is a bunch of BS. When doing stagecraft make-up the first aging trick you learn is to use shimmery,glowing make-up to bring out the wrinkles.

You have to think of you wrinkles as shadowed areas of the face. Anything you put on that highlights them will also intensify them.

Older faces look best in non powdery but still matte make-up.

I really think it's best to treat the dry areas with whatever (if you feel the need) and use make-up for tint and finish only. A sheer water based foundation works for me. Right now I'm using my Jane that I've hoarded when they discontinued. I'm 60 next week and I never use moisturizer at all except if I have been exposed to harsh weather for the day like at the beach or in the hot windy desert.

I love makeup, but haven't been able to wear it in years. All minerals, foundations, powder blush, eye makeup, etc. make my eyes burn. Years ago, I wore it all, but either I changed or they started adding different ingredients (i.e. chemicals). The only thing I can wear now is a little brown mascara (certain brands only), which I also use as an eyeliner; cannot wear black mascara, either. I do wear a little unscented lipstick by Almay which, of course, is not made any more.

I have worn Estee Lauder Fresh Air foundation for 40 years. It's water based and provides a nice even cover that lasts all day, every day. It's not cheap, but a bottle lasts for six months or more. In my old age, I've started using the Oil of Olay regenerist line of moisturizers which seem to help a little. Never bother with eye make up but I probably should.

I use Estee Lauder DoubleWear makeup.. which is a medium to heavy coverage and stays all day. It does not come off on my clothes or if I sweat. It stays on till I take it off with cold cream. You do not need any powder with it, it is a very matte look - which is my only complaint with it.. as I would prefer a slightly dewy finish. Tobysgirl... other foundations make my eyes burn too.. but not this one. You might want to try a sample at the makeup counter.

I buy my DoubleWear on eBay. I get the big 6.7 bottles that they use at the stores. It will last me over 2 years and is much cheaper that way.

I don't know if it makes aging skin look better, but the coverage is excellent even though it doesn't feel heavy. It is not drying either.. and I do not use moisturizer under it.

I don't use foundation. Just moisturize my Sahara dry
skin, and then usually use a cream blush. But my face
has to be super moisturized, or that blush gets soaked
right up. I do use concealer and buy my eyemakeup from
the drug stores. Although, now that my eyebrows seem to
be thinning a bit, I might try that Avon brow that you are
talking about. With my blue eyes, I usually use brownish
eye color. I find that if I use any other colors, it just
seems to draw attention to my dark circles that have
just started to appear this last year or two.

I gave up worrying about wrinkles a long time ago! lol I I use Avon's Cashmere Finish Foundation and love it! It goes on light! I've never worn powder because I don't like the way it feels on my face. I"ve used Avon's Wash-Off Waterproof mascara for years. I've tried others, but always go back to that! I recently bought Avon's Mark "Just Pinched" Blush TINT and love it!! I don't wear lipstick of any kind, because it feels yucky on my lips!

I worked at a Merle Norman studio for a few years when I was younger. Loved their Aqua Base and Retouch and used it for years. Now they have dropped many of their old line and frankly, I don't care for the liquid makeup nearly as much. Plus with my allergic reactions, part of which involves my eyes - I have stopped all their products except my brow pencil and liquid moisturizer (the light white lotion in the tall bottle and the powder foundation in the white compact case when I go to the gym or excerise class.

I now use the Cover Girl with Olay in it when I go out and nothing if I stay in. I now use Almay eye shadows. They are the only ones that don't make my lids itch after a couple hours. Limited mascara as well and I can't wear eyeliner at all. I think this is all connected to dry eyes.

I wish I could still wear Merle Norman - wish they hadn't cahnged their formulas.

oh, yeah, I don't used lipstick either. it's YUCKY! lol
i'll use Burt's bees lip shimmer in colors... or a lip linder and fill in my lips and then ad a chapstick or lip gloss, like Burts, over that.

Maire Cate, I just read the GH article this morning. It said the best makeup for "older" skin was liquid. Don't think it recommended any special brand, but I'll look again.

I quit foundation when I had hot flashes -- not after 'natural' monopause (no problems then), but after MD's put me on HRT 'for my heart' (HAH!) and I wanted off them.

Seventy looms. That Old Woman looks back from my mirror. I use CeraVe moisturizer and drugstore brands brow pencil, mascara, powder blush and lipstick/lip liner. (All that AFTER I *shave* of course. Ye gods!)

I haven't worn makeup in 20 years. I have oily skin so it would just get absorbed and always looked blotchy....so I just went with the natural look. I don't think my DH would recognize me with makeup.

I haven't used foundation in years either, wouldn't know where to start. For the last year I've been using Olay Definity- color recapture- moisturizer. I use it alone but it can be used under foundation. It says it will even out your complexion over time. I have a few small dark spots, I cover with a concealer stick. I'm lucky in that I don't have many wrinkles around my eyes or dark circles under them. I wont say I love it but it works good for me. I was using a mascara that looked liked a small circle of spikes and it did separate the lashes. I saw on The View that plain ole Maybelline Great Lash was the one most recemmended. I bought some and wish I hadn't thrown the spiky one away (can't rememeber who it's by)the great lash clumps and it would have helped separate the lashes. I don't know if having long lashes makes it worse or not.

I rely on my inner beauty and don't wear make up.......on rare occasions I will use mascara and fill in my eyebrows but that is about it.
Lipstick doesn't stay on no matter what so I quit using it, too.

I"ve used Avon's Wash-Off Waterproof mascara for years. I've tried others, but always go back to that! I agree with Bumpkin on this! I love this mascara too!

I use a moisturizer, then apply L'Oreal True Match makeup, but I only use it on my cheeks and chin, which tend to be rosy and blotchy. My cheeks and chin are also the only unwrinkled parts of my face.

I wouldn't put makeup on wrinkles, it just makes them show up more.

I like L'Oreal True Match's exact color match to my skin.

I use Sheer Cover and love it. I have never been able to use foundation - It never looked natural and felt heavy to me. I HAVE TO moisturize first when I use Sheer Cover though--if I don't, it definitely doesn't do me any favors. When I use it with the moisturizer first, I really like the results. It doesn't really look like I'm wearing makeup just evens out my skin tone and gives me like a fresh look.

Does anyone have any opinions on if BareNaturals or any other mineral makeup is better than Sheer Cover? I may try other kinds just to see how they compare but don't know where to start.

Thanks for all the tips and comments! It's a funny thing about lipstick.......I love it and rarely go out without it, but it's the first thing to come off as soon as I get back home. Sometimes I remove it in the car before I get home. Up to that point, it doesn't bother me at all. Same thing with my watch: Happy to wear it when I'm out; can't wait to take it off when I get home. I haven't analyzed this behavior. :-)

I gave up mascara in my twenties and haven't really been able to wear it since. Maybe, as someone noted, it's a dry-eye thing. Most of my friends regard mascara as their #1 essential cosmetic. I tried Maybelline Great Lash a few months ago, and just didn't feel comfortable with it on my lashes. My lashes aren't exactly long and thick, either!

Makeup.....I loved it in my twenties, but gave it up completely in my thirties and forties. Wore it sometimes in my fifties. Now, in my sixties, I really appreciate the way it improves my appearance. I'm always careful not to overdo it, though. I can see how some old ladies might be tempted to pile it on. :-)

This has been an interesting read. I didn't wear make up until my 30s, mostly lipstick until I started aging. Now when I get up in the morning's I have lots of very small red spots on my face and I think it has to do with sleeping and getting up in the AM because the do eventually go away. Anyway, I love the look of my Simply Powder, it has foundation in it. It hides the red spots and I wouldn't be without it because of the spots. It does seem to smooth the skin and evens out the color in my face. The reason I started wearing makeup was because I tried it a bit and afterward I just saw this brown face in the mirror, no color. I see women in the stores who look brown from lack of color in their face. They do not look good at all.

Angela Nor Calif. -- Love Urban Decay stuff. It's my only make-up splurge. Their eye shadow is the best! Doesn't come off until you take it off and they have a whole line of matte shades that are so hard to find.

Marcy--- Covergirl Lash Blast in the big orange tube with the fat spikey brush be has great separation. Maybelline makes my eyes itch for some reason.

Another Cover Girl mascara fan. You can get it at Costco if you use a LOT. lol

I've been known to wash a mascara brush, dip it in alcohol to 'sterilize' it, and start over again with the same tube. Eliminates clumps...for a while.

Yesterday I saw a skin care product from I don't remember what company. It was called "Hope". Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Since that's what they are all selling, and none of the stuff actually DOES what is promised, I thought that was hilarious.

I have been using Bare Minerals for several years. I wouldn't switch to anything else.

I mostly use covergirl, sometimes the minerals. I wear makeup daily, even eye shadow. I feel Very undone without it. No mascara ever, I hate the dark circles when it smedges. I do't always use lipstick, it wears off so fast anyway.

chisue: I want to say that is Philosophy. It's supposed to be a pretty good product. I've been using one of their products for the little lines around my eyes and mouth and for the price, I'm not overly impressed. It had excellent ratings too. I always like to go see what other people who have used it have to say before I buy it.

I will chime in to say check out Costco if you have one. Their Kirkland Brand by Borges is really good skin care products as well as foundation, powders and minerals. Lipsticks don't stay on (what's with that anyway?). Haven't tried eye things. They also carry the Olay stuff that is supposed to take off 10 years of wrinkles. I am so blessed...76 and only beginning to see wrinkles. Someone said I really looked pale, so today Iused a liquid foundation for the first time in ages...then someone gave me a kiss on the cheek and said ohhh how soft your skin is. Nice.

This is just a hint about mascara! I read somewhere to put your tube of mascara in HOT water and let it sit for a few minutes..and it won't clump! I've been doing this for several months...and it works perfect. My mascara is the last thing I put on, so I just plop in in a cup of HOT water BEFORE I start putting on my makeup. It's ready to use when I get ready to apply it!

I never liked foundation or powder.
My skin looks pretty decent for 58 because I never clogged my pores with that stuff. A little eyeliner (Avon limmersticks are great), mascara, blush, and lip gloss are all I use. Always a minimalist.

The mascara and the makeup removers have also found a new home. :)

All that's left are:
