neighborhood civic associations

Does anyone have information regarding the legal protection of civic association board members? Point in mind, our civic association is incorporated, but, according to a lawyer, each individual board member can be personally sued by a resident. In a neighboring community, a resident sued their Board, because a property management company employee went onto on his property.(trespassing) Each member of the Board had to pay $2000.00 each!.

I was wondering what you may know about these things. Our president is requiring , if the corpoartion status is enough.(??)
