American Idol Girls Tonight

I thought most of tonight was really boring. I didn't care for the song choices at all. I did like both Jordan's who sang upbeat songs and Pia was very good.

I hope the three wild cards will be all guys.

Lauren Alaina! Love her. Pia has a beautiful voice but I like the fast, rock the house songs.

I missed Naima's performance, and I wanted to hear her.

I was thinking that Thia Megia had some pitch problems, but then Steven Tyler immediately said she was pitch perfect. I have a pretty good musical ear, but I'm willing to concede the argument to Steven. I wasn't thrilled with her, though.

I agree that Lauren Alaina, at 16, is a complete natural. I think she'll go far in the competition.

I disagreed with Jennifer's assessment that Lauren Turner (?) was holding back in her performance. I'm unfamiliar with the song she sang, but it seemed to me that she put everything into it.

I also disagreed with Randy when he said Haley didn't bring anything unique to the Alicia Keys song ("Falling in and Out of Love"). I thought she really made it her own.

I missed some others in the first half hour. I read that somebody sang the Fiona Apple song "Criminal," which I would have liked have heard because I like it.

I liked Pia's performance. I wondered if the standing ovation was entirely in response to her song, or maybe partly inspired by the fact that she was the last singer. I thought she did a good job, though.

I wasn't bored. :-)

Either Amanda is hard headed or she simply isn't getting it. Tonight was the third time one of the judges told her to do something different and show she can actually sing. I hope she gets the message next time or gets voted off. She does hard rock really well. I don't begrudge anyone that type of music if they like it, but it isn't pop and maybe she can't do pop. I think Carly has the best voice of all the girls, but she's not entertaining at all. She better get a clue. She strikes me as someone who is not friendly with the other contestants. Brooke is our new Carly Simon. She can't win the show, but I hope she gets a recording contract. We need another like her. Will be very refreshing. Alexandrea has a fantastic voice. I like the way she glides from natural to falsetto, and she has a strong falsetto to boot. That's really rare. She is so nasal I don't know how she sings so well. Maybe she is one of the ones who had the flu. Syesha didn't do nearly as well as she is capable of. She did better when she was hoarse. LOL I wouldn't be surprised if Ramiele wins the show. All that voice with awesome control and she's a little cutie pie, too. Asia'h is so nasal it seems weird she can keep up with the words. I like the way she sings though, and she's very entertaining. Not hardly the only one, Susan. Syesha is a great singer. She's another one I don't understand why people dislike her. Really bugging me to know what is going here, but I know I never will. No one will admit it, anyway. Chikeze is better than at least three other contestants - Jason, Kristy, and Ramiele. Jason is a cutie pie with a nice voice, but he's not a great singer and he's NOT a good performer at all. Kristy should have gone ages ago but taking only her performance Tuesday night, my 8 year old could have done at least as good a job with a song so beloved in the country. She, or whoever chose that song for her, was a marketing genius for that moment and kept her in the contest another week. Ramiele has either lost enthusiasm or is totally lost. The only thing I can figure must be happening is the producers are controlling the outcome or voters are not being honest with these people - true to themselves but not the contestants. So not fair at all!

I liked Amanda, but I knew it would be this week or next as she doesn't fit the mold for Idol, nor did she really try. I also don't think she had any intention of winning this thing, it was exposure she was after and she got it. The reason she rarely smiled was because it didn't fit her image. Did you see her when she finally did, egged on by Simon? She looked like the girl next door! Put her in scrubs, with her hair pulled back, add the smile (she was TRYING not to on Idol), she's probably a great nurse. Wonder if she dyed her hair just for Idol? Hmmmm. I think she took this opportunity for everything it was worth and on her terms... well played IMHO. Somebody was definitely waiting in the wings to sign her up and she's probably glad she's no longer married to Idol. IMHO, Kristy's next. Then Carly. bestlawn took the words out of my head..."She's a great technician with no appeal." Spot on!

my top fave guy is still Casey Abrams love the red hair and that Jennifer said he was sexy. He said he was out to prove guys that look like him can be sexy. I think he is very cute and that voice is awesome very talented guy. I actually was with the judges in shedding a tear when Jacob Lusk sang he is one of those wow singers. Scotty he will be a country music star no matter what happens on Idol. james Durbin kicked it in gear. He is going to be the rocker for sure. Paul McDonald loved his rendition of Maggie Mae, so quirky in voice and movement but very appealing. I think the definite go home was Jordan Dorsey and he thinks so highly of himself too, after making every one audition just to be in his group that group night, I knew he was going to be a fail. Love the judges, they are doing a great job.

I 'think' each judge gets to pick a additional contestant to make the top 13 (after the top 10 chosen by America have been announced).

I wasn't impressed with most of the girls. But it could be the music they sang. The guys sang songs I recongized and for the most, they did a fantastic job. The girls all sang the same-old-same-old stuff that all sounds the same. Two of the girls even look the same, so I was a little confused for a while there. "What's she doing on stage again???" The country girl seemed the most comfortable on stage. And I liked her singing.

They've been doing it for at least a few years Alisande. In 2009 they were supposed to pick just 3, but picked 4 instead which gave AI 13 finalists. I'm not really sure how they are doing it this year, but I'm guessing they will have at least 13 contestants moving on.
