Heads up! Another raffle!

I just noticed that Ann is having a raffle on her blog and is giving away a beautiful one of a kind magnetic knife rack made from the same wood as her cutting boards.

Anyone can enter. The draw is New Year's Day. I entered by posting a comment on her blog. Woot!

Well I just came in from digging up two cannas which is all I could do in the swamp they were in. I had to just leave them on the grass as they are just sopping wet and muddy. My whole yard is still saturated and can't handle another drop of water. The rest of the cannas in the side bed will just have to wait and hopefully I will be able to get them before they are dammaged. Only the leaves were damaged by the freeze night before last so maybe I still have plenty of time and a few warm dry days would sure help...wishful thinking. Penny

No my but my DH won an ATV with trailer and another time had 5 out of 6 numbers on the power ball. Didn't win nearly as much as he would have if he had all 6 numbers but still won about $3000. Me, I've never won a thing. Good thing I have DH. My daughter is fairly lucky. She frequently wins the small stuff on drawings and one time won a $200 scholarship. All she had to do was put her name in the hat. That was easy.

Mantis - The hybridizer is James Hall - Mljomo on the Lily Auction. I got Scarlet Angel from him and he sent me his Red Head. I actually like it better than Scarlet Angel. James has a lot of intros now and usually sends those as bonuses. I think they all start with the word Buddy's. I've gotten several of his auctions over the years. Fogged up glasses = escaping breath. I use first aid tape to get the top of my mask closed all the way across. Of course this means it hurts when I eventually remove the mask after I get home because of the tape pulling at the delicate skin below my eyes. Meanwhile when I go out on top of the usual wearing of masks below the nose inside crowded stores, teams of completely uncovered workers on construction sites, uncovered outdoor dining creating curbside gauntlets and the pulling of masks completely down in order to use phones - whenever and wherever the phone user happens to be at the time - I see a lot of people with masks that fit so that their noses look like they are sitting in a row boat. As in open on top and with large gaps on each side of the nose, with only the tip of the nose covered. And often just barely at that. Apparently the point of view such behavior demonstrates is not in fact a latter day development, a condemnation of how things have become because I read in the spring about how there was the same problem in 1918. That is that Americans were actually told to distance and cover back then as well and because - same as now - there was a significant component that didn't cooperate a deadly pandemic developed. With one specific large outdoor political rally in particular that was held right after the looming problem had become recognized being considered a major contributor to the initial establishment and spread of the virus. Individuals taking seemingly careful precautions and becoming infected anyway shouldn't be a source of mystification when it is thought about the totality of what is involved with exposure. Because the death dust is out there being blown around to settle on every body and every thing that is within reach of each cloud of exhalation. So that a friend with medical training was taking a shower every day after coming home from work, early in the unfolding of the pandemic. And we have probably all seen the comical pictures of random people in China walking around in protective suits with jugs etc. covering their entire heads - a hysterical response, except was it really? For my part I managed to be moving around inside a crowded Cost Co during peak afternoon hours yesterday and then fall asleep on the living room couch afterward without bathing. Except for washing my face when I got home. While I was at the warehouse store standing in front of a display reading some product labeling an arm came around from behind me and grabbed a container of the goods and disappeared. I did not look to see how much face covering was employed as they walked away. For one thing I did not want to turn and present my face to the air where they had just been. But when they came up to me at the display they were right there, like maybe a foot away. In other news a research entity was granted a million dollars this past week to find out just how long the COVID virus remains viable on surfaces. And the body of a COVID victim that was for some reason kept around for a month was discovered to have still infectious particles in the lungs.

It's a lovely piece of kitchen equipment and would make a perfect complement for one of her boards, which have many fans. I have a built in knife rack installed in my cabinets, so I don't need one, but it would be a very nice addition to a kitchen.

I had to go comment on the blog, just to illustrate how easy it is. I had to comment as "anonymous", which took me a few minutes to figure out since I don't do Facebook, don't blog, don't twitter, tweet or text and can't remember to charge the cell phone.

So, go comment on the blog, it's fast and easy and you could win a very generous raffle gift.

Annie - I just had to go check after you said that; was wondering how "anonymous" could win. But of course you were smart enough to sign your name, LOL!

(You could have chosen "name/url" - that's what I just did - no need for a URL)

Very nice offer, Ann! If I don't win, I might just have to buy one. (I hope that saying that doesn't decrease my odds of winning!)

Lou - Your knives don't have to match. The picture Ann posted has an unmatched set and it looks great. Go for it!

Not that they're not worth every penny....but Ann and Moe's boards are expensive....as befits any beautiful, well designed item.
Whoever wins this one wins something worth in the neighborhood of $50.
Maybe I should sign up with a new 5 minute isp and enter the raffle twice? LOL!

Barnmom - I blog for our local Cookbook Club. Each month we get together and review a cookbook (or two) and everyone picks a recipe and we have a little feast. The bookshop provides wine and it is a great night!

When I registered for the drawing, my comment was that if I won, I would donate it we would do a silent auction as a fundraiser for the club. Fingers crossed :-)

I've had a Henckels magnetic knife rack for 30 years, and I couldn't live without it!!! I can't imagine storing my knives any other way.

Yours are gorgeous Ann, and personally hand-made to boot! Good luck to everyone here who entered!

I was wondering, and *please* don't take this the wrong way anyone, if GW would even let this post pass, since there are items being sold on your blog.

Jasdip - I'm trying hard not to "take this the wrong way" but I'd like to offer my perspective:

Over the years, Ann has been among the most notable members for sharing her recipes, methods, kitchen tips, etc. While she's linked to her blog countless times, it's always been a relevant link, to her blog entry about the recipe or similar. I have NEVER seen her promote her small side business here on GW. Even if someone has a post tucked away on their hard drive just waiting for this opportunity to prove me wrong, please ask yourself these questions:

1) Do you really think Ann's years of extensive involvement in this forum is in the interest of personal financial gain?

2) If Jessy had liked to a giveaway on a true commercial site, say KAF, would you have objected?

If you honestly answer "yes" and "no" to those two questions, then I'll just agree to completely disagree. But in light of the recent crap on this forum, I ask that for the sake of peace you just let this one slide before yet another good intention starts a war.

My heartfelt deepest apology for letting even an inkling of anything otherwise cross my thin brain.

And yes, I do know how valued of a member, generous and a gifted cook and photographer Ann is. I don't need you to point it out to me. And I don't want this to turn into anything nasty.

So Ann, once again you are doing an extremely generous thing by offering a free creation, (I can't imagine what the cost of shipping your boards must be).
