Help With Kitchen- Buying a house while out of the country!

Hello,

This is my first post, so I apologize if the picture turns out small. But my husband and I are out of the country and buying a house without ever stepping foot into it! The below is a picture of the kitchen (house built in 94). Apparently the cabinets are in excellent shape, but are oak, which we do not love. We are planning on painting and replacing the floor (the entire house is in this tile) with a stone (either travertine or slate) in a french pattern.

So my question is, can we get away with using the exsisting layout and just replace the doors (shaker style) and paint in a cream? Or should we do a complete update? Also, we will only be in this house for 3 years, and then plan to rent it later. So cost and durability is a factor. Of course if we kept the exsisting lay out we would replace countertops and appliances.

Any suggestions?
