how to get sufficient hot water; tankless??

There have been a lot of posts questioning the value of tankless water heaters. My situation is:

Currently have 50G heater which tends to run out in the morning, family of 4.

Remodel will add a 60-70G tub, custom shower (7.5 GPM Max draw for showers).

No room for second water heater.

Live in temperate climate, Southern California.

For the master shower I expect stressing/worst case need of ~5 GPM hot water at 60 degree rise (3 2.5 GPM showerheads using ~66% hot water). Current tap water, measured to be ~60 degrees. During severe cold spells (say 45 degrees outside), maybe it goes down to 50 degrees.

Right now I am planning on adding a tankless which will be right outside the master bath. Tankless will ONLY be used for the master showers and bath, 50G tanked will supply rest of house.

The gas lines are being rearranged for kitchen remodel, so incremental cost of running gas to bath is relatively modest.

Do I go with the tankless, or get a large (say 80G) tanked heater?

Opinions?
