Uh oh, Easter Bunny turned into a ball

OK, I got out all the leftover bunnies, chopped them up, and proceeded to melt them in my double boiler. They began to melt then turned into a ball! :-( I have used the same double boiler to melt milk/white chocolate wafers and Walton's chocolate without problems... What am I going to do with this ball of "chocolate"? Al

Eat it!....You must have gotten some moisture in there....

Linda, I have been watching it very carefully... don't think any moisture got in there. Think this chocolate has a higher melting point. I turned up the heat a bit and stirred with all my might, it started to melt a bit more. But I can't seem to get it to dipping consistency, only a thick, spreadable paste. Some of the chunks still refuse to melt. Maybe Easter bunnies are meant for eating only! LOL Al

When I woke up today & waked into the diningroom & saw my BUNNIES, it was such a warm feeling, I just love them and they are so special on the table, to wake up to! I can't thank Karen enough, like I said, they will be out thru all of spring, the decor is not specific to Easter, but more spring. I know I'll be using them in other vignettes thru the year, you will all get to know them well, or get very tired of seeing them. I think they need names, sort of like Kathleen's SPUD!!!

My goodness, I am late thanking all of you for the sweet comments. I had so much fun last week with DGD and pooch! Must admit it is more work than I remembered! Marlene, I love those polka dot plates. I'm excited to set a ts with my purple set too. Karen, I did HOP!!! Now I know I'm capable of a lot more than I normally do in the mornings. I can fix pancakes, bacon and do the dishes as well as get another one ready for the day!!! Creek, TJ is a fun addition to my decorating. Can't thank Jeanne enough for that. Seems like my batteries are not keeping a full charge any more.sigh Wish it was as easy as buying some new ones.LOL I worked outside all day yesterday and it really kicked my butt! So appreciate all the sweet comments ladies. Hope all of you have a Wonderful Easter. I did get my pie crusts and dinner rolls made last weekend and in the freezer.Woohoo Punk

Jeanne, I am really,really sorry to be so late getting here. I always love seeing what you do, and the wonderful things you have to decorate with. I've never seen rustic chicks like those, so perfect for your decor too! That lighted egg sounds so neat with the colors that change! I also love the framed birdhouse picture. Mr and Mrs Bunny are such a cute couple! I remember lusting over those Easter blocks last year and wishing the Hobby Lobby I get to go to had them. RR, they grow so quickly, I want to have pictures so I can remember when I was still the center of the universe for The Princess, and when Bruvver would still climb on my lap and kiss me. I want to remember that "Alfalfa" cowlick Bruvver always has, and Makayla's curls. Gotta take pictures, Maggie will be in college before you can blink! Linda, that cookie cutter is the only thing that will ever get Makayla to eat a carrot, I swear. (grin) Or a rabbit either, for that matter, LOL. Jim, Makayla rides Copenhagen every chance she gets but Bruvver is happiest on a tractor. Or a loader. Or the bulldozer. LOL He loves to go "two tracking" with the Jeep and his sister is happier on horseback. I'm also happier on horseback but when I sold that little old Allis Chalmers C model that Dad and I put together from parts in boxes, I cried. I loved that tractor, even if it did need a new throw-out bearing (which cost $20 for the part cut you had to crack the tractor in half to replace, LOL). Yup, definitely had to make a tractor cookie, even if I didn't have Allis Chalmers orange cookie dough.... Annie

Al, I usually chop 'em up and use them in chocolate chip cookies, I've never tried to melt them.

I'm only assuming they have "something" in them to make them hold their molded shapes...

The good news... I finally got it to work, sort of.

The chocolate melted to a very thick consistency, finally. I coated the pretzels with a spoon then shook it like mad to get rid of the clumpy excess. Funny how it took longer to melt the chocolate yet it took a very long time for the chocolate to re-set. After 20 minutes it still looked wet so I put it in the fridge. Now I can pick one up without giving myself chocolate fingers. On the other hand, I did finger print the chocolate. LOL

I made these for little man's class. It's our tradition to give out treats for Easter, Halloween, and Christmas to all the kids in his class. We have printed a label and will wrap them later.

I think the chocolate they make bunnies out of is not the same quality as chocolate you might normally use for this purpose. Glad you got it to work though. Those look really good! The kids are going to love them!!

I know a few people who stick up on bunnies the day after Easter for Christmas candy....especially white Easter bunnies.
Perhaps one brand is better than another?

They look quite nice. Did you end up having to add something to make it dipping consistency? I had my own dipping nightmare a few weeks ago now I'm gun-shy.

If you need to try this again, add a tiny bit of shortening at a time, until you get the consistancy you need.

They still turned out nice, and the kids wont't care!

Tami, exactly! As long as it's chocolate, the kids won't care!

Linnea, I didn't add anything to the chocolate. Just turned up the heat a bit more. I read it somewhere that chocolate's melting point may vary depends on the type and quality of the chocolate. The Cadbury bunnies I used seemed to have a higher melting point than my chocolate wafers and the Callebaut. I wonder if I should have tempered the chocolate because the result was some very soft chocolate that melts in my hand.

Annie, good suggestion. I definitely will use them in baking instead for dipping next time.

Linda and Lowspark, you're right. I believe the quality of the chocolate greatly affect the outcome. I am not too crazy about white chocolate unless it's Callebaut. I find most white chocolate too sweet and lack cocoa flavor.

Speaking of Callebaut, I melted some dark Callebaut to make almond-cranberry bark. They turned out SO good!
