Easter Egg Hunt in California

This was held at the home of one of my SOL's relatives.

Notice the dog gets in the act too.

DGD Rachel,is on the Merry Go Round (an antique metal one). She has on the black tights and the flowered dress.

Looks like a beautiful yard! I bet it was hard to leave that lovely GREEN grass!! Did you get some snow over there yesterday???

No Sandy, I don't think we got any snow here. I didn't get in until last night about 8:00. I left California with capri's and crocks, so my feet were a little cold until I got the heater going.

Everyday is an Easter egg hunt at our place LOL! I haven't died them but have marked them with permanent markers so I know which ones are old then snitch the fresh ones from the nest. Some ducks don't like the marker tho and kick the eggs out. Most ducks lay them any old place! We actually have a yearly egg hunt on my 2 and a half acres but we use plastic eggs and no chocolate(FLORIDA SUN AND fireants!) this year Im thinking of making a prize box and they can turn in the eggs for prizes,,,still thinking

We have found HughesNet satellite to be very reliable and it makes photo uploading so much faster. It makes everything so much better... all you need is a clear view of the southern sky, as they say! :-) I remember well the waiting of dial-up... I really feel for those who have no other choice. Well I think I may be in the minority here but I've never exactly viewed an egg hunt as a competition. My community has a set amount of eggs and based on the number of kids, they get a set amount of eggs. That seems much more fair. The little kids get stuff and the big kids get to enjoy it too. I will say though that not all prizes in the eggs were of the same value and I suppose that's where the competition might have come from. I know this community started doing this years ago when most kids would go home with nothing and the kids with help from their parents got everything. Now that just doesn't seem fair.

thyrkas, it was lucky you posted a copy of your telegram here as they are no longer used by the Royal Mail in the UK and Dido would have been shocked to find a barrel of small, very hungry dragons on her doorstep. FEDEX doesn't cross the Atlantic. In fact over here I think dragons might be an endangered species which will give them a higher priority over mere humans. I just read of a TRUE case in the local paper concerning the first cousin to the dragon, the Great Crested Newt. A family (human) had been flooded out of their home during the bad weather of last summer. Months of delays by builders followed and then the area flooded again, this time from a blocked stream. It has been discovered that among the detritus of the 'blockage' is a family of Great Crested Newts which cannot be disturbed because of their protected status. 'English Nature' also noted several birds nesting in the area. So the unfortunate family must stay in temporary accommodation until the birds have flown and the GC Newts have decided to move on "contra bonos mores" as the poet might have said.

That's really pretty and "Eastery" looking. My grandparents had a merry-go-round like that in the play yard for their grandkids. There was also a slide, a swing hanging from a tree and a sandbox. I miss daffodils!

Yep, that's how I remember Easter egg hunts when we lived in CA! Now that we live in Oregon, it's hit or miss if we'll have that kind of weather. This year we did NOT.

I loved all the pastel colors. They also hide 1 gold egg. Everyone pitches in $5.00 if they want to hunt for the egg. It is hidden in a harder to find place. Mom and I donated $20.00 but didn't hunt. DGD found it, and won the $80.00 that was collected. It was hidden in the tub of iced down beer/pop. That had to have been cold. She didn't follow through on the agreement she made with her brother on the way over there though. They told each other if they found the gold egg, that the other would get 20% of the money. She didn't share.

Man they do it right out there! All we had here was dirty snow and wind and rain! ICKY weather and no Easter Egg hunt. The GB's hid plastic eggs inside a couple times though, cause I wouldn't give them the hard boiled! LOL
Thats great your GD got the gold egg!!! What a exciting thing for her!
