Hi folks my name is gaby I am new with pets never had any wile living with my parents.. I just got married and my husband and I decided to get a cocker spaniel she is a delight only when she is sleeping hahahaha I have been searching the net to find a good dog trainer or just some sort of dog sitter near my home town that could teach her how to behave properly. Is some one could asssist me of a good web site I would be very happy. thanks a million

At my vets office, there are 2 waiting rooms, one for dogs and the other for cats.

At my vets office they usually put you into an exam room pretty quick but you have to wait in there for a pretty long time sometimes. I guess it keeps the cat v. dog problem at bay. Nice cartoon.

My vets waiting room is pretty much the cartoon to a T. The first few times I took my eldest cat in, there were no dogs, and the ones that did come in, went straight in. Well last time, I put the youngest in her carrier, and kept the eldest out, because she's generally fine to be held at the vets. Well wouldn't you know it. Two very sick pitbulls, a rottie and a st bernard were there to greet her at the door.

It couldnt have just been little yappy things, she doesnt mind those. So she flipped and scratched me, we had to switch her and the youngest and wrap the youngest in a towel and hide her face in my arm. She'd have attacked the dogs, this cat has NO fear.

I learned my lesson!

My vet's waiting room is very large, plenty of space for all concerned. The cats seem to always be in carriers, scared witless. The dogs are a mixed bunch from small and trembling to large and gregarious (mine!). I have never seem aggression, just fear.

Our vet does a good job of keeping dogs and cats seperated by having people wait in the exam room. And large aggressive animals will get put in a room first, even though they may not get seen first.

The title of your post made me think you took your pet to the vet just for fun!

I do take my boy to the vet "just for fun." When I have to make a visit to pick up meds or food I will take him in with me so that he knows that not every visit will be a professional call and he can just enjoy the friendliness of the staff without the pokes, jabs and shots that sometimes
are necessary during a check-up.

At the time of an official visit we are put in an exam room after usually a short wait in the waiting room, and this is where he gets stressed out. (Could he be claustrophobic?) He's never seen a closed door that didn't present a challenge. He would be much more comfortable in the waiting room instead of waiting for 15 minutes or so in the exam room. Besides, he's nosey and wants to socialize.

Since dogs don't need the extra time to disrobe in the exam room as we do when visiting the doc, I think it is much more humane to allow non-threatening dogs to wait outside the exam room and to be called in when the doc is ready to see them. I'm sure the vet and also the owner would know which ones should be isolated.

I called into a clinic the other day for some OTC product and was so amused to see the practice cat bustle up and work away at the sliding door into the consult room so she could get in too. Presumably she knew that it was a cat that had been taken in there. Not a very good manager though, as she failed to shut the door after her :)

We did a well-baby visit to our vet today - annual exam, shots, heartworm check. Our vet is the only vet in this office. This means that he does not usually have anyone in his waiting room. He or his assistant is always mopping the place down, too. I don't much like the smell of the cleanser, but it nice that I don't have to fear the dogs sharing germs with an ill dog when we visit the vet! Usually we never see another customer. Sometimes we arrive before the last one left or there is someone waiting when we come out of the exam room, but not usually.

Wow what a bunch of great responses. My dogs are scared to go to the vet also. I have started taking them with me when I go to pick up meds for my horses. The older of the 2 dogs is still pretty nervous when we go there but the younger one is getting used to it. The vet I go to has a small waiting room but so far I havenÂt had any problems. They would probably put you somewhere if there was a problem or I would take mine outside until they were ready for me. I used to get my other dog shots when our vet came to our house to give the horses shots but the dogs I have not are not on the same schedule anymore. IÂll have to find another graphic to work on for our forum, seems like there arenÂt any objections. Terri
