Installation of kitchen faucetHow to prevent water from leak in?

I am installing a kitchen faucet on sink. After installation of the faucet, there is water under the faucet and goes into the middle hole under the faucet. The mounting deck may be uneven. Do you have a good idea to place something between the faucet and mounting deck or seal around the faucet base to prevent water from leaking in on the mounting deck? See the

Roll out some plumbers putty about the size of a pencil and install it between the plastic gasket and the sink.

The faucet does not have a gasket. The instructions indicate Install faucet on sink. (No sealant is required unless mounting deck on sink is uneven). The faucet is from American Standard. I have tried to use an old faucet plastic gasket. But, the water still leaks in under the plastic gasket. Probably I have to look for a rubber gasket. Do you have other ideas to prevent water from leaking in under the faucet?

We actually have two of these models, the other is now 7 years old at another house we own. We have always had good luck with KA appliances. Even after our bad experience with this one, we likely would have replaced it with another KA. Before this dishwasher we had an older Bosch that didn’t dry well (no heating element). My wife really likes this dishwasher. It cleans and dries well and holds a lot of dishes. We really didn’t want to replace it. Thanks also to everyone on this forum who posted pictures and comments. They were all very helpful. Forgot to mention the most important thing. Before attempting any appliance repair, be sure to get permission from your significant other! Mine couldn’t be happier.

This is like asking a blood bank nurse about the tightness in your chest and whether or not it's your heart or lungs. You really should be in an emergency room explaining that tightness to a doctor who will run more tests to find out exactly what the problem might be. Leaking water can be from multiple sources! Is it a constant drip always, or a slow drip always, or a slow drip only after using the DW? Are there any newly installed elements to your kitchen plumbing? How old is the DW? The disposal? First order of investigation would be to inspect the DW/disposal connection for tightness and then view the condtion of the sink base cabinet. Unhook the DW electrical and plumbing and unscrew the anti tip bracket and slide the DW out and examine the floor under it. Remove the ceiling panels and use a flash light to see what you can see visually from your kitchen drain as it goes into the main drain line. If you can personally find out where the leak is coming from, then you can decide if you can DIY the repair of the problem or call the plumber or appliance repair person.

Our upstairs washer overflowed and dripped down through our kitchen ceiling lights and onto a 4 foot long area of our hallway hardwoods. They were going to sand and refinish the entire hardwood area, including the powder room. We didn't have major cupping, so we just left it until the floors need refinishing (but they paid for the refinishing anyway). The upstairs is carpeted, and the water went a foot into two of the bedrooms. Their policy was to make everything look uniform, so they replaced all our carpeting. Are you just now opening the walls? We had a restoration company in here immediately because of the potential for mold. Sheetrock and insulation was torn out wherever their moisture meter showed moisture. We endured several days of noisy fans and dehumidifiers.

Thanks Weedmeister. Hmmmm, this brings up another issue I briefly read about on another thread. I don't know anything about this and would have never thought of it on my own. If we turn off the water supply, flip the breaker on the hot water heater and don't drain it, will the water be skunky monkey when we return a couple months later? Or, when we fire it up upon returning will that kill the bugs? After all, this does supply our kitchen. Draining it is not gonna happen, and I am probably making a mountain out of a mole hill here, but just thinking out loud. I wish my heater was on an outside wall. That would help. No such luck. The original floor plans called for this water heater to be installed in the attic. Our builders told us how much more trouble and expense it would be to install it that way. They convinced us to put it in this pantry closet. I don't think the attic would have been any better.....maybe in some ways even worse. Every replacement would have meant dragging a water heater up one of those pull down attic stair deals. Yikes! Makes my back hurt just thinking about it. Thank you.....thank you all.

Plumber's putty between the faucet assembly and the mounting deck.
Make sure the putty adheres well to the clean and dry deck before pressing the faucet down on it. Then clean up the putty that is forced out from between the faucet and deck.

I have installed a lot of faucets. They have all had a gasket of some kind. Plumbers putty will not work without it. The faucet is not thick enough to catch and seal with putty. I am not recommending this, however you could install the faucet then apply a bead of clear silicon around the base.

You are right. The one I got is a returned one. The gasket missed. I exchanged it with the Moen faucet because it provides lifetime warranty for leak or drip free. ThatÂs what I want.

But, I do not understand why most of kitchen faucets do not use rubber gasket instead of plastic one. I see most of bath faucets have rubber gasket. IsnÂt the rubber gasket better for preventing from water leaking in than the plastic gasket? Can anyone explain it?
