Comments (3)So, at least the KA fridge is still okay? (From seven years ago, it likely will have been is a Whirlpool fridge with slightly different cosmetics and a longer warranty on the sealed systems.) On the microwave, you might want to read the story linked below which Consumer Reports published a couple of weeks ago. Water not getting to the DW? You mean the DW comes on and the LEDs light up but no water flows? I suppose you have already checked the water supply line to be sure the valve is not off and that the line is not plugged. If the line is okay, it is something internal, such as a failed pump or a burned out circuit on the controller board. My thought would be this: if the cost of replacing the conroller or pump is going to be $300 or more, I'd buy a new dishwasher. Of course, there also is a controversy over controller board burnouts and fires with Whirlpool made DWs which includes KA branded units. Use "Whirlpool + dishwasher + fire + CPSC" as your search string if you want to research this further. Bosch DWs are mostly well reviewed here. Had one (SHU3 series) for 15 years until the controller board died last summer. Replacement boards were no longer available according to the parts houses that I checked. Replaced the old DW (which will become a smoker) with a 500 series (SHE55M). It works very well but the loading pattern is different and took some getting used to. If you want to research these further, I recall a recent (within the last month) thread discussing the 500 series models. But, maybe you've already seen it? Comments (20)"Awhile ago, we actually used a video on You Tube and took everything apart." Umm....OK....and why did you do that? And how long is "awhile"? And what was "everything"? Were there previous problems, then? The plot thickens. "I have been told the 'real problems' happened when dishwashers were designed to meet energy star standards." Disagree with this. I have owned several machines before and after the energy star hoopla. (Maytag, KA, and Whirlpool) They've all worked fine. Latest whirlpool, very similar to your KA, works fine. While I write this, it's in mom's kitchen doing an excellent job using a little more than 1/2 the water of the 2001 model it replaced. Has done so for a couple of years, now. I have little doubt your machine will work fine, too, if it's diagnosed properly and made to run as it should again....See MoreKitchen Aid Dishwasher Review
Comments (1)Jane, you are so right. I have two KitchenAid dishwashers. One is one year old and the other that is in my summer condo is just over two years old. They do a great job washing the dishes and are extremely quiet. The two year old washer has had no problems, but the newer one has already had two repairs - one major. The pump clamp broke and the dishwasher flooded the kitchen. A month later, one of the LED indicator lights stopped working and the control panel had to be replaced. I do like the machines, but I am afraid to run the dishwashers when I'm not home - especially the one in the condo. I do not want my dishwasher to ruin my downstairs neighbor's ceiling. I've also purchased the extended warranty for both....See MoreDWs: Miele, Bosch, Kenmore or KitchenAid. Which one? help! xpost
Comments (43)I've had a Miele for 10 years - no problems other than it etches my glassware which I did a lot of research on when it happened right from the start and there was no solution other than using the China and Crystal cycle any time I had any glassware in it. I also seem to be the only person who has had that problem. All in all though since I can only use one cycle and would never put any good glassware in it, it was far overpriced for the features I use. I have a rather basic 12 year old Bosch at another house and really like it - works great, no problems. Both are very quiet which I love. I recently moved out of the MIele house and will need to replace my 15 year old dishwasher there that sounds like a jet engine. I will get a Bosch....See Moresocalss
