This would be funny, if it weren't tragic on so many levels....
Comments (24)Latest update...the electrician is working mightily, though some stuff will be faked for the inspection (three-ways not activated for example). The cabinetmaker I hired a week and a half ago (someone I'd worked with previously) to take over one part of the job...in the probably vain hope that the other cabinet maker and GC will then finish the painted cabinets on time...has already made and installed the oak upper cabinets. The custom wood hood is here and going in Thursday. But the carpenter didn't show up again today, so still no trim on the windows and doors, no grout on the backsplash, no stain on the patched floor. And the AWOL GC and cabinet maker apparently made a brief appearance, installed exactly 5 of the 25 plus missing doors and drawer fronts and left...again. Marcolo, I'm willing to allow a certain amount of judicious faking because the money does not get released to the GC. It goes directly into my bank account and it's up to me to decide when to pay it out and there's a deadline on my loan. If it isn't done by the fast-approaching deadline, I can no longer draw on it and any untapped amount comes off the principal owed. So...better to get the funds under my control. Believe me, I'll have no trouble refusing to pay until everything is perfect. I just wonder if I'll be in my grave before that happens. Comments (32)Cotehele, can you tell me the measurement of your gap from top of backer to countertop and the measurement from top to bottom of your backer panel (not to the floor)? I need to reorder the right size. Designer claims there is no error and wants me to pay twice. However from bottom of cabinets to countertop is 30" and designer ordered one that is over 30" (it would go below the cabinets even if there is no little gap....See MoreClient wants her home to have more character. Comments (205)I really do have to step away soon, but... "I get it. "we have much different perspectives." and yours is acceptable and mine isn't." Well I literally have a PhD focused in project analysis, you know... things like behavioral economics, net present value, opportunity costs, marginal value, marginal cost... I am sure that architects spend years studying to develop their perspective on value also. So, to answer your question honestly, I don't know anything about design, but I do believe I have the upper hand when we move to value discussions and can hold my own in process analysis....See MoreAny suggestions for adding storage to a small bathroom?
Comments (8)yes it is meant to recess between existing studs, is skinnier that a stud space so there is wiggle room. it sticks out @ 1”. Here is a pic of the Signature Hardware one we did. I hate to complain because it looked fine, fit the space well, easy and relatively cheap. This was for a last minute quick update of a bathroom before listing in 1 day, not committing to any serious work. It’s skinny (about a foot) and easy enough to cut a hole in drywall & pop it in. top pic is my phone pics B&A the 1-day makeover, 2nd pic was from the realtor pics. i doubt the paint on that cabinet was even dry. ETA yes we put the hinge on the left so the door did not hit the light. That part was fine, what I didn’t like was the body of the cabinet was a flimsy plastic shell. Plain stud space would have looked better inside....See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
