Vickey....how'd appt go?

You'd think we'd know, since we were there, too, but apparently our invisibility works against us. Anyway, so many of us were thinking of you this afternoon. If you already posted and I missed it, I apologize.

I feel like I know less now than I did before I went in. It's not true, but it feels like that. I have endometrial cancer. I won't know what "stage" until they do the "TOTAL" hysterectomy...yup, ovaries and all. instant menopause! AND it will be abdominally. BUT the good news is that it'll be a twofer...they'll take the apendix out at the same time. That way if they have to do radiation (which is what they'll do if it's stage 4), the appendix won't be a hinderance. Anyway he thinks it'll be a stage 1. SOOOO now I have to hurry and get a bunch of test run because he wants to do the surgery in the next 2-3 weeks. Mammogram (got that in today, I have no idea how), colonoscopy (YUCK), cardogram, ekg, bloodwork, chest exray, obviously the pre-surgery exam. I feel like i'm running around in circles. As I get each appointment made I just cry..I have no idea why. Oh well! Will keep everyone posted when I finally have the surgery scheduled.

Oh and he said only 3 weeks off work for this surgery???? Boy that doesn't sound like much, and I was so hoping for some time to just sit home and knit!

Hang in there. You are allowed to cry and get stressed about the tests. Getting angry, getting all the emotions out is good for you. You don't have to be an actress and put on a brave front. Just be yourself. And if you feel like sitting home and knitting for awhile afterwards, then do it. You may find you bounce back quickly and you may find that you are tired and only want to work part days for awhile. You can work this out with your employer and doctor as you go along.

So you would ask all your neighbors to complain that you are being loud at night, and you are certain they will all agree to lie for you and to conspire with all the other neighbors to lie. (You do realize the management will ask Unit A how you're being loud, and then will ask Unit B if they can hear you, and then ask Unit C how you're being loud, so all the units will have to get their stories straight.) Then you actually WILL be loud when the management comes by to check. 1. How can you know when, exactly, the management is coming by? 2. If your neighbors agree to pretending that you are loud, how do you think they will feel when you actually ARE loud when the management comes by to check? 3. What if the management just sends the police to deal with possibly dangerous and disruptive tenants? They don't know you are only pretending, right? Where do people come up with crazy ideas like this??? I really want to know, 'cuz if stuff likes this works I've been doing things the wrong way my whole life.

Ded, thank you so much for checking in on me! I've been wondering about your progress too. Slow but steady improvement -- sounds like the nerves are calming down, and it's just a matter of time for the incision to heal. Are you scheduling the other hand yet? As for me: weelllll...because the money was so much more than I'd anticipated, I voluntarily (my DH didn't want me to do it, but it's my body) have said that I don't want to put the family to that much expense, esp. when it's becoming clear that *because* of my hands, we'll have to hire out more of the bath remodel than we'd anticipated. I'm feeling doubly guilty about costing the family money, esp. since I'm not bringing any in yet (I'm going to start looking for work this fall when DD goes to high school). So, I've been doing scattershot PT on myself, exercises from youtube. Honestly, the trigger thumb in my right hand and basal joint arthritis in my left hand are bothering me more than the carpal tunnel, at this point! : ( All that probably sounds kind of lame, but I've been very happy about my ability to learn to do so many aspects of remodeling, but now I'm paying the price (I can really sympathize with sheesharee and her shoulder) and feel kind of dumb. I really don't mean to sound strange or anything...it's all open to revision as need be. We'll see what the future holds (or lets fall by mistake LOL); please update as to your healing as it progresses

HI guys and thanks....since the doc read off the pills and amounts she has me taking I am just guessing if I was to call today she would say no she wanted me to keep taking them..and in lite of what Carol said that my iron is still not as great as I thought it was...I will contiune them as bad as I hate taking them... Gosh annette....I can'ttake them on a empty stomach when I do I get sooo sick...I have to have something in my stomach.....so I do take them with water though but about 30 mins of eating something.....And Leslie she told me it was from a blood clot not the riding and was suprised it was just now starting to bleed..(since it is old blood) but it sure is painfull....course she said it would be...and said itw ould be like when Ihad a period..I told her that it sucked because I didn't have pain with my periods..and now I am....okay no more whining I know that in a few more weeks and yearsto come I will be sooo grateful I had this done.....Stacy

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My sister is bipolar type 2, with rapid cycling, and I watched my mother try to deal with her. (Fortunately or unfortunately, my sister self-medicated with food, not drugs or alcohol, so she wasn't a physical danger to herself.) I *so* understand that you're afraid of alienating your daughter, and are worried that she'll leave and you won't see her. The only thing I know for sure is that nothing good ever comes out of acting from fear. I'll tell you my bias. I watched my mother do much the same with my sister as you're doing with your daughter. My mother's main concerns were keeping my sister relatively calm and not letting her break their relationship. My mother did things she *knew* were counter-productive, because she was afraid of losing my sister. She "helped" my sister in school - to the point of actually doing many of her assignments. She wrote absence excuse notes for fake illnesses. She provided my sister with spending money. (I, OTOH, started working at age 15.) Later on, my mother gave my sister a place to live, rent-free. She paid for everything - clothes, food, utilities, car insurance, gas ... you name it. My sister got a good education and could get good jobs, but when she got them, she spent all her money on spending sprees. (In one week in 1986, she bought a $20,000 car, a $2,000 exercise machine, $1,500 of stereo equipment, $1,000 in CD's, and probably a whole lot more stuff I never knew about.) My mother eventually gave her money, because she didn't want to lose my sister. (By that time, it wasn't a physical loss she was afraid of, but my sister would go into her room and completely ignore my mother if she didn't like what my mom was doing.) When her illness cycled, my sister would rage at my mother. (In type 2 bipolar, the manic cycle is more a matter of anger than what we think of as mania.) My sister would throw books and scream and make life miserable, but my mother took it, because she was afraid my sister would stop talking to her. My sister lived with my mom until the day my mother died. One of the last things my mother said to me was, "Take care of your sister." Well, I loved my mother enormously, but *THAT* wasn't going to happen, at least not the way my mother was doing it. Once my sister lost her safety net and had to be responsible for herself, she managed to do it. My sister is still ill, on multiple medications, and is hospitalized from time to time, but now she's much more responsible. She holds down a full-time job, something she hadn't done for more than a couple months at a time before my mom died. My sister will tell you that what my mother did for her, though it was done out of love (and fear), made her illness worse, not better. She'll also tell you that while she loved our mother, she never respected her. I don't know if any of this strikes a chord, but there it is. I can't say what you should do, because I'm not in your situation. I just want to urge you to consider that you're not just hurting yourself by placating your daughter to the extent you've described, you're actually hurting her. I keep thinking of that old adage about the definition of madness being doing the same thing over and over and expecting the results to change. I think you know you have to do something different, because you don't like the results you're getting. As to why bipolar illness (and ADHD, and all the rest) are diagnosed so often today, who knows? Personally, I think they're real illnesses and have been around forever, but they're also over-diagnosed. You don't need to solve the societal problem, though, you just need to figure out what's happening with your daughter. If she *does* have bipolar illness, then it doesn't really matter if 10,000 other people have been misdiagnosed with bipolar. And if she doesn't have it, many of the things you need to do are still the same. (BTW, I agree with Alisande that you're right to look at the diagnosis with a critical eye, and ask for a second opinion.) I'm sorry if anything I've written makes it sound like there's anything remotely simple about the problems you're facing. I wish you the best of luck.

What do you mean you don't know why your crying.......The unknown is very scary but you have a lot of people praying for you. So for now, one day at a time.

((Vickey)) Girl, I can imagine how scary all of this must be for you. You're starting a long jouney and it has to be overwhelming! Come in and vent anytime that you need to - plus, there's a wealth of people here who've had a lot of the same experiences and feelings.

Hi Vickey, we are standing here with you. Anything you need to do is fine, cry, laugh, you do what feels right to you. Yes, knitting is such a great stress reliever. I have never been to a doctors visit that I didn't have some little project with me, sometimes as small as a dishcloth. Sometimes those doctors words would just become a language where all the words seem to blur together. Our son in law is a doctor and he became my personal secretary, there have been times that I would call him at 2 in the morning, and ask, now tell me again what this means. Vickey, I believe in miracles, all of my friends tell me that I am proof that miracles do happen.

Give yourself some time to adjust to all this, Vickey, it sure sounds overwhelming right now but you'll handle it and do fine, I'm sure.

It does seem overwhelming and this is all so new, I can understand why you feel like crying. Try to keep the goal in mind and not worry to much about things that haven't happened. Well, that might be alot to ask at this moment but I know you can get through this.

Positive thoughts for your quick recovery.

It's really encouraging that the doctor thinks it's a stage 1. Think about it....he (or she) wouldn't want you to think he was very wrong if it turned out to be much more serious, right? Also, my doctor told me that he does tell people if he suspects it's bad news, because he wants to prepare them.

Hang in there Vickey,we'll be praying for you and keeping good thoughts for you.

When i was diagnosed with BC in 2008,it was like a whirlwind,everyday some test or other or another dr to see,and the day i had the biopsy,i knew it was going to be positive for cancer.I started crying during the biopsy and cried for 4 hours straight.DH called my PCP and had him order anxiety drugs and depression drugs.

It will get better and it's all very doable,although very overwhelming while it's happening.

oh vicky..been there and done that...didn't have quite as many pre-tests as you but it does help...in fact, it was a blessing for me to have overies removed and NO hrt after...

and as the days go by and all those tests are done, your positive attitude will return...

as for radiation, while a pita, daily treatments for some, or intense one week, for others, is being tired...i was able to drive to all my appts...it was one place i had control...

btw did you like your dr? i think that helps in recovery...

Vickey, Cancer is such a terrifying word. It is no wonder that you are crying.It is a long journey but it sounds like you have a good doctor, and a supportive husband. You have a lot of support here.One day at a time and lots of prayers will help you through this.
