D-shaped sink, corner cabinet, faucet placement

I have the Blanco D-shaped 24" silgranit sink and it's going in a corner 36" cabinet. The faucet can go behind the sink or to the side. If you have this set up, where did you put your faucet (I have the Delta Leland)?

Our corner D-sink is in the laundry room. The faucet is centered behind the sink with the soap dispenser to the left. Usually when you see the faucets to the side its because they are on a regular 24" deep cabinet run so there really isn't any room behind the sink for the faucet to sit, so they place it at the 2 o'clock position. Here's a couple pics...

Thank you for the responses. DD and I are experiencing one of the greatest joys of a reno---figuring out how to make every half inch count. When she started on this project she knew every inch could matter and is now afraid that she will soon be down to obsessing over millimeters. She has decided that her sink size and placement is the key to her entire kitchen. If she can get the sink far enough to the right on her long wall, she can shift the DW to the left of the sink and get a trash pullout on the right. The latest iteration of the plan calls for a sink base no wider than 30" with the goal to achieve the most sink space possible and still get that DW on the left. From measuring her cookies sheets and roasting pans 22" x 15 1/2" (16" would be better) is the least rectangle that she thinks is functional. I was up into the wee hours last night looking on line and Elkay had the best website for stating exactly the minimum size base cabinet for each sink. In general, I'm estimating that an effective interior sink width of 22" would be found with an overall 24" wide sink which would then require at least a 27" wide cabinet. So the best that she can hope to get in her 30" sink base would be a 27" wide sink that has an effective interior width of 25" or so. Most brands of sinks, though, seem to jump from offering 24" wide to 30" wide with nothing in between. Has anyone seen a 27" wide sink available anywhere? Thanks, again.

I will be the contrarian here. I am right handed and have the faucet on the left as it is more "out of my way" there. I do all the work on the right side. Of course, I need to also say that the sink is at the end of the run of the counter and next to a wall in a small galley kitchen - so it also makes more sense to have it the left corner. It is really up to you and how you work at the sink. Good luck with your decision!

All I can tell you is that a D-bowl needs about 21 inches for depth and then you need a few more inches for your faucet. You should be fine with a 36'' corner base cabinet. I have a D-bowl which will be in a 39'' corner cabinet and there is plenty of space without having to cut the sides of the cabinet.

I think that I would put both up towards the rounded corners, the upper right corner for instance. You want to set them far enough back that if you were picking something up from out of the sink and turning towards the right side that neither the faucet nor the handle will get in your way. However with the corner sink you need to be careful that they are still both easily accessible (not too far from the user) because there is a little more countertop between the person and the sink than there is in a normal sink-counter set up. Several people with corner sinks have actually been very upset about how far back in the cabinet sink has been placed I would look into that because if you were still at the ordering stage and you wanted to you could install a regular corner and put the sink next to the dishwasher. That would give you more prep area between the sink and the stove. I can't speak as to the Kohler carbon, people seem to like it but others find it to be too stiff. If possible, I would try to use one before ordering.

My corner prep sink's faucet is in the "2 o'clock" position...but...my sink has a cut-off corner for the faucet. I think in your situation I would do as mydreamhome IF I could reach the faucet. You need to mock it up. In a corner sink situation, often the sink is set a bit farther back than a "straight" sink and, the bigger the sink is, the farther back it has to sit.

Here's mine, but it is 17-3/4" square exterior, 15-3/4" interior in a 36" corner sink base.

Thank you so much! The pictures really help. I was having a hard time envisioning how the sink and faucet would look (never had this shaped sink before) and how much room there would be in back of the faucet if it was directly behind the sink. Thank you both for taking the time to respond.

One more decision made - the faucet will go behind the sink.

buehl brings up a good point--get with your cabinet guy & see just how close you can get the sink to the countertop edge in the corner base cabinet. Then make sure someone tells the countertop fabricator. Our corner D-sink sits 4" from the granite edge (so the bowl part of the sink sits about 3" from the front cabinet edge). But it looks like buehl's is further back than that. So definitely have the sink placement discussion--better safe than sorry! I'm 5'4" tall and can reach the faucet controls behind the sink just fine.
