RenoFan, what a great house to work with! Are you renovating it to turnover & sell or move into? I agree with everything you've mentioned, especially the dining room wallpaper. As nice as toile is, it makes it look like my great-aunt's dining room, fussy and dated. Same with that chandelier! Can't wait to see more pics as you work on this place.

Yes, I like the toile but agree it's just too much. Maybe it would be better with darker floors. If you're doing this for resale, definitely get rid of the toile. It has lots of potential, too bad so much of the potential was misused/overdone/wowowOW!!

I have to agree on the dining room. I think I'd leave it, but as you say, darken the floors, and I'd add a crown molding to finish the room. I'd do something besides those window treatments in there too. It's odd that they went WAY overboard on window treatments everywhere else and didn't do the dining room which should be formal :)

That bathroom...umm YUCK!!! Honey that almost hurts as much as our phoenix's rising in the family bath in this project :) Unfortunately...or maybe fortunately, we didn't get the cesars palace shower curtain...

I'm salivating....can't wait to get my grubby little paws into the renovations!

This house is for investment, not a personal residence. I know that *some* personality will be necessary, but as was said above, this just seems "fussy".

I'll have to post more pics when I can find my flash drive. I have pics of all of the rooms vacant that I intended to use for Photoshop mock ups. That's half the fun!

Wow- that is a great place. A little rough on the eyes- but I guess any one who likes to renovate can look at homes with "renovator's x-ray vision." I wish we started with that house instead of the one we are currently renovating.

Oh, I love the wallpaper (in the formal DR). Simpler chandy, darker floor and some trim and it'd be lovely.

Don't think I'd ever be able to convince Hubby to use something like that, though. *sigh*

I applaud your energy at being able to take on so many projects at once...just the prospect of taking all that wallpaper down makes me want to take a nap.

Nice house, it will be beautiful when redone. Most buyers would be turned off by the wallpaper, so I suggest you take it down.

I wonder if the former owners owned a silk flower store.

I am happy for you, but part of it saddened me, the bank owned part. Even though the home owner had busy taste, you can tell they tried to make it home.. when I saw the basket ball hoop out side, that hit my heart knowing a little boy lost his home. It's not an easy world out there, sad.

Have fun with it! take pictures as you go so we can see the transformation...I am sure in no time it will breathe new life.. best of luck on your closing tomorrow!

reeree, I would agree with you. I know some history on these owners, and I have VERY little sympathy for them, though I have tons of sympathy for their family and/or any innocent children.

Either one or both of them are incarcerated for mortgage fraud. There was a HUGE fiasco in our area where some crooked realtors, appraisers, and mortgage bankers were all in cahoots in a mortgage scheme that basically inflated the prices of houses.

Great house! It already has so much going for it. Is there any way you could make the top front window a bit larger so it is more in scale with the exterior? I think this house will shine when you are done with it.

Now you need to have a fancy dress and bonnet made from those master bath curtains so you can call on poor Rhett in the pokey!

The house has so much potential. I love it and wish I had the time, money and talent to fix it up. I am happy you will make this house a home and someone will be very lucky to buy it from you all fixed up looking great.

It does seem to have potential...if you can get past all the Liberace decorating to actually *see* the characteristics of the structure. I had to get up and take a Dramamine in order to look at the kitchen shots, especially the one with the glass table and floral arrangements! Hard to believe people actually live like that-???? Good luck with the project!

You can leave everything just as it is... if you want to run a brothel out of it. ;)
