Stone Park USA in Philly area?

Hi,

We are looking to put a marble-looking quartzite in our new kitchen - something like white princess quartzite. Of course, I've now discovered this is not easy to find. I went to the stone yards recommended by my kitchen designer, contractor and friends with no luck. I came across a place online that had some slabs I liked (they don't fabricate so that is no issue) - but can't find reviews. Is anyone familiar with Stone Park USA in the Philly/New Jersey area? Any other places near me to recommend?

Hi Jett,
I visited Stone Park on my long countertop search. I think I found out about them from the salesperson I was working with at Stonemasters in Kennett Square (a good place to look too if its not one you've already been to).

She directed me to Stone Park because I loved a Sea Pearl Quartzite she had in stock, but it sold out.

It is by appointment only, I called the number and the man set up a time for me to meet him there. He arrived at the promised time, opened the huge garage door into the warehouse, and allowed me to browse without bothering me much.

They had a very large selection of stones and the most quartzites I had seen anywhere, although I wouldn't say they had a ton.
At the time I went, last Summer, they did have Sea Pearl, Calcutta gold quartzite, and another dark green one labled quartzite which was beautiful.

They don't have prices labled though and the man wouldn't give me prices, I had to get pricing through the fabricator. This was my only experience in our region dealing with an actual warehouse, though based on GW that seems to be common elsewhere.

Unfortunately the price of all the ones I loved there ended up being way out of my price range, Stonemasters was going to charge significantly more to fabricate one from there, compared to one they already had in stock in their own warehouse. I wished I had never gone!

In the end, I got Silestone and Marble from another place, lol! I changed my mind a million times. Though if price were no issue, I'd have gotten the leathered Sea Pearl that Stone Park had...it was beautiful.

I ended up using Suburban Marble and Granite in Warminster and I was happy with my experience there.
Imperial off of 95 near the airport had some quartzites too, and their pricing is good.

Which places have you already been to?

Thanks so much! So far, we have done Suburban, Colonial and Tropical Stone. Still looking....I'll check out the others plus my contractor recommended one other place!

OOh, this reminds me we still have to go to our lawyer to sign an amended will. We switched guardians for out two youngest from my bil to my oldest son. I should do that before I open the box. Would it be a good idea to have the dog sniff it out first? Should I worry about the mail carrier, after all she is a nice lady. Oh, what to do, what to do. Maybe have a fresh raw steak handy and ready to throw in another direction while I run with the plants.

Sorry, but 1/8th is by far the most common royalty payment in the USA and is so by a huge margin. For certain, a 50% increase over that rate is very rare. Occasionally, I will see lease agreements that include 1% or 2% over-rides but not 6.25%. Only those private mineral rights owners who happen to own minerals in areas with very good potential or have control of large contiguous tracts of land will get more than 1/8th. By far, most who hold out for more than 1/8th royalty get to settle for zero instead, and that goes for the US government as well. For the Federal government, by far the largest mineral holder in the USA, to hold out for a substantially larger royalty than is considered standard by the industry would likely amount to excessive interference of the government in interstate commerce. In regard to Yellowstone Park and the grizzlies, no oil and gas drilling is currently active in the immeadiate vicinity of the park, that I am aware and that is the business I am in. In fact, I am not aware of any drilling having occurred in that area for many years. Sounds like environmentalist or wildlife activist scaremongering to me. Most drilling is at least 50 to 100 miles away, either to the south around Rock Springs or Wamsutter, Wyoming or to the east in the Big Horn basin. Neither of these areas is likely to be grizzly territory at this time. The immeadiate Yellowstone Park area itself is not likely to have conducive geologic structures or lithology for oil and gas accumulation. However, the average American is so geographically challenged today that mentioning drilling anywhere in Wyoming probably equates to drilling next to Yellowstone Park regardless of the fact that much of the state is hundreds of miles from the park.

ok Mepop I understand. Travertine is a great hard stone and a timeless look. OUt here we can get many types and colors. it may be rough cut surface which is great for pool decks as it is not as slippery. Honed means it is a polished stone, holes aren't filled. Honed and filled means it is smoothe and no holes for dirt etc to settle in. Better for inside jobs on floors and walls of showers. Color is subjective, and even small lots can be mixed if they look similar. Or mix contrasting lots for a unique look. When working multiple pallets you always pull from each one so color variations are spread thru the project. So a 10 pallet job means pull a bit of tile from each of the 10, lay it and then pull from the 10 again. Especially with natural stone, as there can be big variations and color and texture. My only advise on color is more subjective here. Darker colors are hotter on pool decks in Vegas. May not be an issue where you are. Hope you catch this before you head out. Have fun, Barb

Informal house hunting in Philly this weekend

I just returned from a weekend in Philly. We drove to Gladwyne and saw that house #1 (aka "money pit") is under contract. From the outside, it looks dated and neglected, but I expected that. Than we drove around and also looked at Limberlost lane where Ded mentioned a house might come on the market in Feb. Very nice homes there. We than drove to Wayne to the second house I linked, on Thomas Jefferson Rd. (the one with the stream in the back.) Well, it isn't a stream, more like a not so small pond with outlets on both sides. and the back yard dropped off precipitously. But the biggest problem is that there is the white noise of highways in the background there. I cant do that. That was in the Glen Hardie section. We drove around to see a bunch of other homes (drive by). What I know now is that I don't mind being further from downtown as the roads further out are beautiful and many more trees. Lots of cul-du-sacs, (a plus) but lots of houses either perched on high driveways or at the bottom of a steep hill. I don't want either of those. I found myself drawn more and more to the stuccoed center hall colonials, followed by stone and brick. We grabbed a quick bite in Wayne and walked around the downtown for a little bit. I think we are ruling out Ardmore and Gladwyne. Both are beautiful towns, but my dh works in KOP and has been doing giant commutes forever. I think it would be nice for him to be able to cut his commute in half or more. It also makes it easier to concentrate on one general area. (Wayne is huge, encompassing 5 zip codes!) I'm haunting realtor.com these days but I also know we're still on the early side of the search. Thanks for all your help. Jo
