Faucet Positioning

I putting in an Artisan D Sink (23x21) into a 36" Corner Sink Base that will be far right of the kitchen. We are a fairly short family and all left handed. I have a Kohler Vinnata faucet and a Kohler soap dispenser.

Would the faucet go straight back or at one back side of the D? Depending on the faucet spot, where would the soap dispenser best go?

I can position the faucet handle to the left or right side of the faucet as well.

I'm thinking maybe the faucet goes to the back right of the D with the handle on the right and the soap to the back left of the D. But, that's probably mainly based on aesthetics.

If the faucet goes to the back left, I think it look weird because the fact that the sink is in the far right corner of the room. But, maybe the faucet should just go straight back?

Toughts?

We have a 16 x 19 rectangle prep sink so the issue may be a bit different. The 19" dimension is front to back. We put the faucet at the right rear corner and the soap dispenser in the opposite corner. Most of our island is to the left of the sink and I'll be working from left to right getting fresh produce from the fridge, prepping and cleaning, etc. If we had put the faucet on the left it seemed as if it would have been in the way. Same thing for hand washing, and I can be obsessive about it, it seemed logical to get soap on the left and proceed to the right to rinse. Although this could be because I'm right handed. Also, we have a dishwasher drawer to the right of the sink so all of my work flow is left to right. These are the types of things I thought about when deciding our faucet placement. HTH.

Thanks for some interesting considerations. I think with our sink being at the back right of the kitchen, I probably want to put the faucet in the corner right, not towards the middle of the room at corner left.

Is it more common to position the faucet at a back corner rather than straight back with a single D sink?

yes it's an L shaped kitchen. On the exposed side I measured the dimensions of the finishing panel that covered the side: 30". I didn't measure the depth of that piece of counter. I titled this thread "typical" because there was nothing atypical in the kitchen. Typical were all the small cupboards and their small cupboard doors. Typical was the corner base cabinet that had me stooping down to go fish out the closest pots. Since it's dark (unlit) in there I didn't go hunting further for more pots of different shapes and sizes. Besides, once I had my three pot sizes close by I didn't need to know more. Typical was the cabinet under the sink entirely occupied by moist garbage, detergents, soaps, and cleaning things. I really was glad to have seen it up close. Brand new, and not at all like what I built for myself in my place. I have more than 20 drawers all 24"w or wider. No base cabinets with doors and no wall cupboards with doors. It cost more than the typical kitchen with doors on cabinets, but it was worth the money, to me. On the wall where I have upper cabinets, I installed Blum Aventos HF swing-up or fold-up hardware that holds the "door panels" up in the air without ever sagging or drooping. Adrienne2011, you asked "Did it swoop out or angle out?". I'll say it was an L shape layout, so the counter had a 90 degree turn. The main counter was about 24"d, and the little counter after the corner to the fridge might have been a bit more depth to the back. Or, maybe they recessed the fridge. I know for certain the side panel on the exposed side was 30"wide.

Originally, I planned my Hansgrohe to be placed with lever on the side. But, as previously mentioned, I ran into a space issue at my cleanup sink between back of sink and wall behind so I had to put it face forward. My prep sink install took an extra couple of weeks so I became used to this position and saw the benefits. The counter next to/behind the faucet rarely got wet. No constant wiping! Plus, it's a shorter reach than if it was positioned sideways. When the prep faucet went in I installed it the same way for my preference and for continuity. It took me about a day to get used to the positioning. No trouble really. I asked the plumber if the faucet markings indicating water temp now being opposite because of the mounting direction would be a code issue at inspection. He said as long as when you turn the facuet handle left you get hot water and turn right for cold, there was no issue. He routinely runs into this situation. I don't see this as a problem at all. After all, hot is always left and cold is always right, correct? I believe that many, though not all, facuets can be installed front facing. I suggest you narrow down the list of faucets you like for other reasons (style, price, finish, quality, etc), then search the install specs for each. Faucetdirect dot com is an easy plumbing fixture website to navigate with their sorting features in the left column. I used this site extensively during whole house reno research. If you can't find the info you need on the fixture's specific page, you can post a question in the little box at the bottom of the page and someone will answer within a day. Thanks CK - I will have to go back and search the picture to give proper credit. Thanks for the measurements CK and mmpmg Enduring - that is the name - I found it yesterday afternoon - but what a rip - $10 for the unit and $7 for shipping. Now if I can find 4 people in A2 who want to order one, then one is free and the shipping is more reasonable.... Pooh- Great idea on testing on my mock sink - will have DH test also - he is left handed, so which side the soap is on, might not be as much of a problem for him but a learning curve for me. How is your kitchen progressing - Do you have you counter installed yet? I think we were templated the same day. Ours is April 27th for the installation. Ovens this week! As always - Thanks!!!

So this is the new faucet, correct: If you're right-handed, I approve of the idea of putting it on the left with the lever on the left. I had a similar faucet with lever on the left-hand side of the sink, and loved the position of the water spout but not the lever, which we put to the right of the faucet. I'd always wind up crossing under the water to turn it off with my left hand. So to be short, I like your plan. But do make sure this is possible with this model, and by putting the handle to the left you won't be having to push it back rather than forward to turn it on, etc!

Almost all of the D shaped sinks I have seen on the forum have the faucet to the side of the sink. I really don't think I would like it to the back and centered as the sinks are a little deeper than a regular sink and it would make a lot of reaching to turn on the faucet. Look through the FKB and you will see many examples of D shaped sinks. Check out the section under categories for corner sinks. There are a couple of D sinks in corners and the faucets are not centered behind the sink. They are either right or left of center.....

I think we've pretty much decided on the sink to the back right with the handle positioned on the right side of the faucet and the soap dispenser to the back left of the sink.

if think this means the handle is closer to your body. This is good.
