Help with Spiral Ham!

My BF got a spiral ham from his boss for Christmas and I have never been a ham person, and, therefore, have never really cooked a ham. I know that it is already cooked, but what is the best way to cook (re-heat) this thing?

I have an oven roaster, slow cooker, pressure cooker, regular oven. What would you suggest is the best way to cook this. I am going shopping tomorrow, so what would you suggest me to buy for this.

I really want to cook this in the best way possible and I know that this is the best place to ask.

Best way is to serve at room temperature. Heating will dry it out.

First read the directions that come with the ham. These hams can be wet cured or dry cured and the directions that come with the ham are specific to it.

Most often you put the cut side down and wrap tightly with foil. Some of the hams come in foil packaging that you can re-heat them in.

The hams are delicious served as they are and cold. However if you are having a sit down dinner and have prepared other hot side dishes - just follow the directions that come with the ham.

Thanks Linda and Barnmom! : ) Well it didn't fit in my slow cooker so I just put it in the oven in a roasting pan with some onions and a little water and put foil over the top. I'm going to add some seasoned sweet potatoes. Nothing fancy but it's a good ham (already sampled it lol) so I think it will be ok. It's not spiral cut. I didn't know those dry out faster so I just lucked out. The brand I wanted didn't have any spiral cut ones. Yes I kinda needed my oven for other things but I think it will work out. I have only done boned spiral sliced ones but I would just serve it cold. Perhaps steaming it when warming would work but the honey baked ones my husband kept wanting me to buy the slices separated and were dry. The natural moisture was always found in the pan and not the meat. You can try since each person's experience is difference. I often wondered about tying it up in one of those braided meat sacks that you use for boneless lamb shoulders to keep the meat together. You could steam it in the coca cola.

I've always used them cold or room temp, mostly for sandwiches at a buffet. Nice gift!

I warm them according to package directions....but allow the ham to come to room temperature, wrap in foil and put into a 300 degree oven for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours...just to warm...you don't want to turn it into bacon!

Thank you all for your replies, sushipup, dedtired, teresamn, and lindac. My BF does want it warmed up, so I think I will take out of the fridge and let stand, wrap in foil, and heat for an hour, then check, and see how much more time it needs. I really don't want it to dry out or turn into bacon! I'm sure it'll be fine. I just want to make sure I don't ruin this! I know I could count on you all.

Cook's Illustrated's method of warming up and glazing a spiral sliced ham might seem a bit fussy but is actually very easy and produces a moist, flavorful ham. We made one today with Cherry-Port Glaze and it was fantastic!

Any spiral sliced hams I've ever gotten have come with a glaze package and instructions on how to heat the ham and add the glaze.

I'd just follow the package directions regarding the glaze if there is any, and otherwise your plan sounds just like how I'd probably prepare it.

I agree with Annie's plan. What a nice gift, though. You can always freeze a bunch of ham for later use! If it has a bone, there's so many uses for the bone.
