worried about infection

I've been feeding a stray cat under my porch for a month now. He's not feral, just abandoned. And while I'm working on making friends with him to get him to a new home, he got into a fight last week with a nasty feral bully who terrorizes our neighbourhood now and then.

And so naturally he got bit on the hind leg. After a few days the wound was obvious and so was his limp. Some days he limps worse than others, but I'm assuming that he's just getting used to the pain.

The wound appears to be scabbing a bit, but that doesn't mean he's not going toxic. Or does it?

I'll trap him and take him to my vet if I have to, but I'm hesitating because I'd rather not go thru the trauma (for both of us!!) unless absolutely necessary....

Is there anything I can sneak into his food to boost his immunity? Or clean his blood?

Or is it possible he can actually get thru this without antibiotics?

Or should I just do the the difficult, expensive, and right thing right now and stop waiting?

Any thoughts?

Lisa
